Old magazines for teacher classrooms

Good morning!

I was wondering if any of you merchandisers could say what happens to all the old magazines that don't sell in grocery stores?

Do they trash them?

Could they be donated to schools?

Where could one find these?

they either trash or recycle them. merchandising companies send people out or if its at walmart they get their regular contractors to do it. you can get a huge number of magazines from rewardsurvey for some very easy surveys

shopping north west PA and south west ny
When I did magazines, we had to tear the covers off and then we tossed them in a recycle bin.

Speaking as a teacher: unless it’s a 100% vetted children’s magazine (Highlights, Scholastic Books) we probably don’t want it. Teachers are already under attack and being threatened (with felony charges!) for having LGBTQ+ positive material in classrooms and libraries.

I can absolutely imagine some parents losing their ever loving minds over some of the articles and topics covered in magazines, even by something as innocuous as National Geographic. You have no idea of the level of crazy out there…
I had been servicing magazine for 2 1/2 years started during Covid, just let them go, got tired of it. I threw ALOT of good mags away , but I did give many to my Library and they were thrilled. Plus I kept all of the good Recipe mags for myself.
