Medicare Advantage Insurance Seminars

I have done three of these and I was the only person at any of the three!
I ended up sitting across a restaurant table from an agent, getting a 1 hour presentation of an insurance plan and trying to look interested! I kinda felt sorry for the agents.

Been there, done that. On one the agent was out in front yacking on her cell phone--at least I think it was the agent, though the jacket in the room did not match up to her outfit. Fifteen minutes after the seminar was to start neither the agent nor any other attendees had appeared in the room, so I departed. One agent decided to sit next to me since I was the only attendee and I really began to feel annoyed by the invasion of my personal space.
I've done only one of these and it ended up being a one-on-one. The thing is, I found it interesting to find out how the Medicare system works especially since I'm a few years out from being eligible. Besides, the pay wasn't bad.
Be careful doing TrendSource health care seminars, everytime they ask for more info., they deduct money....I wrote this on another thread. I am re-thinking doing anymore of their senior jobs. We had 9 people on the last one, and the Agent was informative, never been there to have no one show.....TS has the most difficult ones around.

edited to say...has anyone done the TrendSource ones and had this happen to them?

Live consciously....

I have been talking a lot with some folks from a company that has a small MSC operation (in a big company) and does these shops. It seems that only during the "open season" (this year October- Dec 7) are there large meetings of 30-50 people. The other 9 months, count on being an audience of one.

If you want to do big meeting Medicare shops and can drive to PA, send me an email and I can get you a route, or two. (JacobJ has okayed me asking for shoppers on the forum). In a few days the invitation to these shops will be more widely broadcast, so send me an email sooner, rather than later.

That happened to me a few weeks ago. It was the first one I did. It was just me, the agent, and a small, cozy Bob Evans table.
Have done lots of these...80% of the time I was the only attendee...got to the point where I felt I could do the presentation better than the agent. Enjoyable and they paid well!
If a company continuously asks for more information, it makes me wonder if they are doing that to justify not paying the shopper the agreed-upon fee. I had one company asking me for something, I followed exactly what I was told and they still weren't happy. It was a waste of my time and energy. When those things happen, I tend to hit the delete button whenever I see a shop notification from them. I may do another down the road, but they lose my services for awhile.
I did a lot of these last year. Some had eighty people. Some had only me. It was an easy shop and paid OK. Very informative.

These tend to have different MSCs for the many, many, insurance companies and may vary by state as well. That's because the supplemental insurance plans are under state insurance rules, and will vary by state. When it comes to Medicare Advantage or any Medical supplemental insurance plans, your experience will therefore vary by state, insurance company and time of the year. The busy time this year will be October-December 7, which is the open season for changing supplemental insurance for Medicare participants.

Yes, the big Advantage plan seminars usually start up about 2 weeks before the open enrollment period begins. Open enrollment begins Oct 15. I made a call to one of the Advantage plans in my area several days ago and they do not have their seminar dates set--ergo I am not in a panic that I haven't seen the seminar shops set up with the MSP yet. Made a second call and the information for 2012 plans is not yet available, which means that the Centers for Medicare, or whatever the name of the controlling group for the plans is, has not yet given final approval.
I did quite a few of these last years as of yet the MSC i did them for has not put any on their job board. I know from my information about my plan thuis year it will not change much just 1 new co-pay for urgent care. prescription will change a little but no enoght to get worried abouit. As everyone says these are easy shops and they pay fairly well.
The Shops for 90% of PA (excluding the Philly area) will be posted in early October. However, I have dates and times and can arrange routes for a limited number of shoppers starting with presentations that begin as early as October 4. Please PM me if you are interested. Some travel costs will be covered for route shoppers. I am not a scheduled or an employee; just recruiting a few shoppers for a special project.
