I saw a Dental Video Shop for $200!

Now, of course, maybe it was bonused, as yesterday was the 30th. Maybe someone backed out...

But, how common is it to see a Dental Shop or any other, for that matter, paying $200??

It makes me want to get a video camera! smiling smiley smiling smiley

No bonus, that is the going rate.

I've seen this one pop up in my area at the same rate the last few months. Made me curious enough to contact the MSC about it, but never received a reply. sad smiley

I'm guessing they want someone that has some video experience and probably their own rig.

Bummer. I was hoping to find a way to try this kind of shopping out without making an expensive investment in gear. I'm not even sure if there are enough opportunities in my area to make this a paying proposition.

If I hadn't been willing to travel it would have taken a long time to pay off the investment. Instead one road trip covered not only the equipment, but the training and the three days it took between travel and the seminar. Ellis is the one to check because they are willing to loan equipment and provide training. Measure might as well, but they may not be inclined to do so on any of medical shops.

There are several of them going begging in my area. I don't have the equipment but I'm thinking of looking into this when I've got more time to deal with something new.

So, how much is the camera and all the gear?

How long does it take, in earnings, to exceed your investment?

First, if you want to try video shopping, please do so with a company that will loan you the equipment and train you. Otherwise, the basic investment is about $420 plus SD cards. DO NOT make that investment without trying out video with loaned equipment.

The $200 dental shops require a lot of experience and a shopper who owns their own erquipment.

Start by trying a few $40-50 video apratment shops with loaned equipment. EPMS or Instant Replays may be a good place to try for that.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
SCM also loans equipment but, if it hadn't been for a mentor on this site, I don't think I would have been able to pull it off. They sent a very basic set of instructions, but not the information you would get from an experienced video shopper.

I contacted MCP regarding the dental shop and they never answered. I've done three successful video shops for Sinclair so far. I would like to do some homes and apartments before I'd consider buying my own camera.

After doing this one, I'm hooked, but I'm also smart enough to heed my mentor's advice and try a few more before making the investment in equipment.

Greeeeeaat Advice! Thanks! smiling smiley
I did this shop here in the State I live in. You have to make an appointment, which is recorded. Then you go to the dentist's office for a teeth cleaning and ex-rays. The fee was $200, plus the services, which in my case were $162. Well worth it for me twice a year. A word of advice. It is like apartment shopping in that it is targeted. They want you to capture a specific dentist.
An important difference between a targeted apartment and targeted Dr/Dentist, we don't have to actually speak to themsmiling smiley I've always been able to make an appointment with just one call.

The only time there was an issue was when an office called late in afternoon the day before an appointment to either change my appointment to another doctor or move the appointment out by a few days. Since I was traveling for the shop, hotel reservations had been made and targeted apartment shops were scheduled to coordinate with the original appointment. To make it worse, I had two walk-in video shops that could only be performed on certain days and any change would have meant losing at least one of them. Needless to say, there were frantic calls between me, the scheduler and the client. I have no idea how it happened, but everything proceeded according to the original plangrinning smiley

I have done this shop and it is the real deal, however, if you don't have your own camera they will ship you one and pay $150. But free dental cleaning; you can't beat that.
Damn! I wish I'd known about these for the last several years. But then, I wish I'd gotten into MS'ing in general long ago!

This is an excellent deal... something you actually need, and the pay + reimbursement sounds excellent.

Yikes! Camera rental usually costs only $10-15.00! If you are new to video, find an easier starting shop!

The $50 is much higher than normal. I am not going to argue about the difficulty level of the shop, but would like to play devil's advocate about that fee. Even at $50, it would take 9 or 10 shops to pay for a rig. If a shopper knows they cannot or do not want to travel, isn't it a decent deal?

Yes, Lisa, it would still be a decent deal for the dental shop. But I did want folks to know that a $50 deduction for loaned equipment is not the norm!

Absolutely, it was a shock to see that. I was thinking strictly of the shoppers who have mentioned an interest in video and are not in a position to travel because it may take them a while to recoup their costs. Local video has picked up quite a bit in my area, even if it is still inconsistent, and I certainly hope the trend continues.

I, too, have emailed MCP but received no response. I like MCP and have done a number of shops for them so was kind of surprised with the lack of communication on the dental video shops.
I love MCP, but sometimes trying to get in touch with someone there leaves me scratching my head as I am beating it against a wall!

I would have thought that MCP would get back to me when I inquired about the dental video assignment considering that it sits on the job boards for forever every time they post it, but nada.
