Tax Deductible Expenses

I've done a lot of restaurant evaluations this year as I "learn" this field. I'm sure I can at least deduct mileage for the shops. How about the price I pay for the meals themselves that I get reimbursed for? Will these be deductible, and thus a wash out as far as taxes are concerned? I certainly get the benefit of the meals but it would seem I would have some sort of offset against the revenue. What other expenses can I deduct. Thanks!

Are you allowed to deduct expenses over reimbursement? Example,a shops pays $8.00 commission,$1.00 reimbursement? Rarely you will find any items or products at that particular shop for a $1.00. Not only that, if you're a regular shopper at this establishment,it creates suspicion, which causes you to lose your identity as a mystery shopper. In order to protect yourself from this, you spend more. Bottom line,if you spend $5.00, are you allowed to deduct the $4.00 as a business expense for your taxes? Thank You
