Purchase/Return Designer Purse Online Shops

Anyone doing one of these? I almost picked up one thinking I'd get to keep the purse AND get reimbursed, but I saw that I buy the purse then send it back to the client. The only thing you get paid is cost of the bag and shipping AFTER you send in the bag (within 12 hours of receiving it at your home!!!) and they confirm receipt and that it was the correct one. I'm wondering what in the world is the benefit of doing one of these shops (the MSC claim you can pick up a lot of credit card points...with some of the credit card companies)? You don't get to keep the bag, you really don't get to use the bag and you're out both the bag and the cost of the bag (up to $4,000) for 30 days (with no guarantee you'll be reimbursed or get the bag back if you bought the wrong bag).

Whoa, no shop fee at all? Your fee is only whatever your credit card company might give you? AND it can cost you up to $4000? (I have not even spent that much on a car, let alone a purse.) This is utterly and totally ridiculous! No way would I do that shop!
I think I saw this too. I thought that I must be misunderstanding the requirements/payment.
I just saw it. Even more amazingly, they're all scheduled in my state. Hmm, I wonder if anyone will flake on those assignments.
I am certain that the people who accepted these shops don't understand the requirements.
I got this one too. There were 4 shops and all accepted by shoppers in my area. I guess if someone wanted the points bad enough to tie up thousands on their credit card until they were reimbursed, it might be cool. Not for me!

I don't even see how this would be possible - I get my mail between 2 and 5 PM most days, are they realistically expecting us to mail it in the middle of the night?

I can see how this could be a benefit to some, churning can net quite a good amount - some credit cards will give you $100 for $500 within 3 months, while "better" cards could be as much as $500 for spending a few thousand.
Is this a legitimate MSC? Legally they would have to either reimburse you for the bag or send it back to you. They could not just hang onto it because you purchased the wrong one. A few years ago one company had shops where you bought various gift cards. If the shops were invalidated the shopper wasn't reimbursed, but the cards were returned.

Yes, it's a legitimate MSC, I just got the email a lot of people complain about their editors.

It's way too much damn work for just some credit card points and the 12 hour shipping after receiving the item is beyond nuts. Who gets their mail or FedEX or UPS home deliveries early enough in the day they could then make it to a shipping office? What if the item is delivered on Saturday?

These have been going on for years. When I was a scheduler they were very popular among schedulers. It was a shop that one was invited to do and there were more people that wanted to do it than openings. Some credit card perks are very good. I am not interested but I know it was a very popular shop awhile back. It was not on boards though as I said it was invite only.

I never would have guessed it for a popular shop. But you're the expertsmiling smiley

I did not accept this job, but I thought about it, I do use my travel points, religiously. Lets say you get 2 x for every dollar spent that is 800 points for a 400.00 dollar purchase and some times I get 3 x for online purchases.

Logically this company has been in business for a long time and is large. Setting people up for failure would not keep them in business. Risk can scare people. There is no difference if your are returning a tool at Home Depot, it is the same thing. Buy return. Your credit cards have insurance.

Can you imagine? You'd have to insure that handbag and take a lot of photos of it plus the receipt in case you had to file a claim. I wonder if the postage costs plus insurance were reimbursed.
This shop indeed has been around for a long time and the pitfalls have been discussed. Perhaps schedulers were delighted to do these shops because they had some clout, but there is just too much that can go wrong and cost you big time for my taste. I have had to fight battles over unused gift cards that were returned to the MSP that 'they never got' until I provided delivery confirmation information including the name of who signed for them. Not too long ago a shopper was complaining about a video camera that had been returned being claimed by the MSP as not having been returned. This kind of shop would fall even below a normal purchase and return on my list of wanted shops and P&Rs fall somewhere down with 'evaluate the cleanliness of the local landfill'.
I thought Cettie was the only shopper allowed to evaluate the landfills. Last I heard she was on a route right nowsmiling smiley

Just FYI, UPS never delivers on Saturday and FedEx only does when specifically requested (for an extra fee).

You could end up getting a $135 item and getting almost no points, since the range they gave was for $135-$4000 and you had to shop the item requested.

I agree that it's too much work for not enough "reward"! And because you can never get a time narrowed down, I imagine they'd expect you stay home and wait for UPS or FedEx to come to your door when you could be out shopping earning real money!
HUM YOU ARE CORRECT. THEY NEED TO PAY FOR THE INSURANCE ON THE RETURN. ON THE OTHER HAND WHAT IF I NEVER RECEIVED THE BAG AND HOBO KELLY WAS LIVING IN IT. WHO WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE. THE BANKS.

I actually wouldn't mind evaluating landfill cleanliness over some of these stressful shops.....

These shops showed up at a different msc (more reputable) than the old msc that used to do them years ago (with lots of complaints). By the time I checked my email and logged on, they have all been taken.

Do you get to keep the points if you return the item?

No, you do not keep the points if you return the item - but in this case you are not returning it - you are sending it to the company and they are sending you the money for the item, which you then use to pay off your credit card.

I used to take these shops all the time (for the old company that did them that had a lot of complaints and is now out of business I believe) and it was generally worth it for the travel points and/or cash rebates. I am always working on new credit card bonus where I have to spend $5K or $10K in 3 to 6 months to get 100K airline points and these shops helped a lot. However, the last one I did I had to find this really, really obscure designer purse that was very coveted and I had to beg and plead Neimen Marcus to find it for me, order it, etc. etc. so I decided the whole thing was too much of a PITA. I would not do them now for that reason. And the 12 hour return rule was not in place either that I can think of.

Oh, thanks for your response, I wouldn't touch this one with a 10 foot pole.

Saw this one too. I thought are they crazy. I would never ever even consider this shop. Now just out of curiosity if they added pay to it how much what it take to get someone to do? Me personally 20% of the item cost at least.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
