McDonald's shop

I've done a bunch of these shops but this is the first time it did not come out right.

I placed my order and specifically asked for medium drink and fries. The gal repeated my order. I paid for my order. When I received my order, it was a large size. I checked the receipt and it also showed large.

I am sitting inside wondering if I should continue the drive thru portion or reschedule for another day?

Also, half of my regular McChicken was spicy. My mouth is burning up lol.

The guidelines now specify: If you are given a wrong size or an item is incorrect, you should NOT correct the order (Correct the order only if an item is MISSING). I would assume your shop will be accepted, and you should just note the discrepancy.

I figure it would be accepted IF the receipt showed medium but I was given large. In my case, although I ordered medium, I was given large plus receipt showed large.

I think I will just reschedule. Don't want to take a chance.

Thanks for your input.
I think you're fine. You just state in the report that you asked for a medium and you received a large.
I would say that you followed the guidelines, and so your shop should not be rejected. You only other option would have been to correct the order, which would have been NOT following the guidelines.

I decided just to reschedule. This location is fairly close to my work so its no big deal..but I am going to email the scheduler just for future references.

Thanks all for your input.
If the shop was for the large MSC, you probably wouldn't have had any issues with the way it happened. I've done a shop for another client where the guidelines specifically state that you can't special order, which means that items that come with sauce have to be ordered with it on top, not on the side. I ordered one of those items in a drive thru once and was given the sauce on the side. The form didn't have a specific place to make note of it, so I said "I ordered [entree] and was not asked if I wanted sauce on top or on the side. The server automatically placed the sauce on the side."

Actually, in my experience MSCs in general are very forgiving of circumstances that aren't in your control during shops.
I usually don't get the McChicken....but i did a special order shop...with limited options...i ordered a regular and the small bite I took tasted okay, but when I tried to eat the rest the next day it was spicy...i had no idea that had regular and spicy mcchicken...

would that actually have been a spicy version? what is the regular supposed to taste like?
Not sure why you chose to reschedule. From reading your scenario, you performed the shop correctly. If you would've proceeded with the shop and then reported the shop correctly, the shop would've been easily accepted....

The bolded part above shows that you followed guidelines. Also, the fact that you didn't correct your order shows that you continued to follow the guidelines too.

Chick,

You asked for advice, then received very good advice. If you did a search you'd have also seen this has been discussed many times.

The survey is simple, you mark you ordered Medium, then what you received and what is on the receipt. The price you paid would reflect you placed the order properly. The only reason you would have had to complain is if they changed you for a large, or as noted an item was missing.

Your job is to report what happened and let the client know what their locations are doing.

I'm planning on doing one of these shops (my first one! so exciting!) tomorrow. I've been re-reading the guidelines and it has specific instructions about what to do if you ordered a medium and got a large instead. I think you would have been fine submitting it as is, @ChineseChick, but I can see why you were worried.

Is this a rampant problem that the arches are having? giving people larger sized fries and drinks than they ordered? It's weird that they specifically called this out as something that might happen.

If my receipt showed it being medium but I received large...then that would not have been an issue. I re-scheduled only because the receipt showed large (but I ordered medium) smiling smiley
Gotcha.

I still think you would have been OK, it seems like there are some inconsistencies with sizes at some locations that the corporation is looking to capture (which is why the requirements are so specific and they have instructions on what to do if it's incorrect). But, again, I see why you were worried and decided it might be easier to just do it over. Let us know how it goes!

ChineseChick,

You are ignoring our experienced advice. Your receipt is fine, as long as you fill the report out and select you ordered a medium.

Your job is to report what happened, not find a way to get the client to look good.

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I ordered a medium, paid, the receipt was placed on a tray and when I received my food it was all large. The receipt said I paid for the large. I explained it in the report and it was accepted.
the concern in not making the client look good...the concern is that the report would have been rejected because the receipt said large and the shopper would be accused of ordering the wrong thing.

Many of us confirmed numerous times that this was not an issue either. She ordered a medium and only accepted that when she ordered. As long as she reports to match her scenario (Ordered medium, but received large and receipt showed large), her report would've been easily accepted....

unless you work for the MSC, no one here can CONFIRM anything..can only state what we believe is true....

the OP had to make a quick decision to continue with the shop or not...and was not sure if it would be accepted....if you look at the replies given shortly after the original post, they are just opinions....

the 1st response only mentions BEING GIVEN the wrong size, not the issue with the RECEIPT.

it is inappropriate to be attacking someone for canceling just to give the client a good report..when that is not the case here.

No one is attacking the poster. We can confirm what's clearly listed in McDonald's guidelines. So no, we're not stating opinions, but facts based on our experiences AND what's clearly listed in their guidelines.

We are siding with the poster and giving her advice on future shops. In her situation, she actually would've been fine to proceed with the shop, rather than reschedule.

Appreciate everyone's advise. I had only a few minutes after I posted to continue (or not) with the drive-thru portion. May have been the wrong decision to reschedule but we all learn from it. I did email support but no replies yet.

Thanks again!
I think it depends on the MSC honestly. The "big"(which is actually smaller) MSC would not have rejected it. The "other" (which is actually larger) would have.

The big MSC updated the guidelines and added a new question to answer when you apply. It pretty much makes the answer very clear to what we are discussing.

The new question confirms you understand the first item listed below from the guidelines.

Guidelines:

* NEW: If given a wrong size or an item is incorrect, DO NOT correct the order. Correct the order only if an item is MISSING.

***NEW***IMPORTANT UPDATES!
You must order a MEDIUM beverage and fries. Do not order additional items or larger sizes even if they are offered at the same price.
If you order a medium beverage or fries but are given a small or large beverage or fries, report that you received the wrong size when you enter your results online.

Like I said previously, I understand if I order medium (and my receipt shows medium) but I receive large... I would not make the correction or in my case re-schedule.

I ordered medium but did not see my receipt showed a large until I received my order.

This does not show they made a mistake because the receipt showed large, I received large. I have no way of proving I ordered medium but for whatever reason, they charged me for large.

I guess I was just more comfortable redoing the shop. A scheduler called me today about more shops and I asked him about this situation. He actually did not know and referred me to the help desk.

Thanks again.

The new question makes you acknowledge you will NOT return incorrect items for correct ones.

CC,

Please learn from this. Part of observing is making sure what you are charged is correct. When the amount charged was for a large, ask yourself how did not notice this? What else are you not properly able to observe?

Seriously why are you on CC's ass?

Now I really feel like being attacked!

The gal repeated my order..provided me the amount due. I received my receipt together with my order. Seems you are now accusing me of not properly observing things... tell me how was I suppose to know? If this was the drive-thru, I would have seen on the screen it was a large.

I repeat. I ordered MEDIUM. She repeated back medium. I saw my receipt when it was given together with my order and it said LARGE!

Sorry I'm not an expert like you!

You did fine, ChineseChick. You proactively assessed the situation and made a decision.

It's OVER. Regardless of whether other forum members agree with or disagree with ChineseChick's decision, it was HER shop and HER decision. She had a very short window in which to make that decision. She made it.

All the coulda shoulda woulda in the world, along with sermons about learning from it are like pissing in the wind. She handled it fine.
