Returning an item for refund

I've had a couple of shops where it was specifically stated that you cannot return an item you have been reimbursed for. In a lot of cases though this is not addressed in the instructions or the agreement. I am assuming that returning a item is ok. Anyone have thoughts?

I had the same question a few months ago. The consensus was that if it wasn't stated you cannot return the item, it's okay. Here's the thread:

I have two shops today which require a purchase, and have no instruction prohibiting returning the item. Neither has merchandise I want or need. I took them with full intention of returning the items after the dust settles, and after I get paid fee plus reimbursement. The return will require a second trip, which I factored in, but the end result will be a higher paying shop.
I know most think otherwise, but to me it feels wrong to get a refund on something that I was already reimbursed for. But that is JMO.
I find a whole lot of 'shades of gray' there because certainly some shops pay so little I would never touch them unless the reimbursement was useful. When the aren't finding someone to do the shop and return of reimbursed item is not prohibited, the value of something useless to me except as a return may make the shop feasible. But usually I just won't do the job of the fee plus useful reimbursement are not to standards.
I agree that mystery shopping could have lots of gray areas, depending on the point of view. It's conducted and reported covertly and is full of mysterysmiling smiley My better half, for instance, has a problem with churches being shopped. As with accepting fees, accepting shop types is to each his own.

If not prohibited, reimbursements, as fees, are mine to do with as I choose. Otherwise, the MSP doesn't care if I keep, giveaway, or return the thingamajig.
I am flabbergasted. Can you please explain that one a little more? Are they looking for friendliness, clean restrooms, or what? WHAT ELSE gets secret shopped? OB-GYNs? And would you go through that for a shop? It would take mighty big bucks for me.
There is the recognition that some churches are more cliquish than others and some are more welcoming. A main part of the shop appears to be how welcomed a stranger was to the service.
Well that is VERY interesting to me, Flash. I guess it would have to be a large church denomination as the client. And doctors do get shopped, too, I guess. Am I right? I just can't picture an exam where you have to shop the OB-GYN.
I did shop where I had to purchase a Fragrance which I really did not need. I waited a week and returned the item for several skin care items.

I usually don't return any purchase items. However, this was $70 and there were other items I needed. I got some body cream, hand cream and lip gloss.
I have to do a purchase and return on two separate days, tomorrow and Wed. I don't think I would feel bad returning something I didn't want or plan to use, or give as a gift.
