Submitting Photo ID

There is a phone shop that requires me to submit a government issued photo ID (drivers license or passport). My personal information such as DOB and SS # can be blacked out. Does anyone know why they require this? Has anyone done this and is it safe?

Depends on the company. Most claim its to meet client requirements. I contend its to insure you are good looking and under 300 lbs...winking smiley

The companies listed here are usually safe...

Shopping Bama and parts of Georgia.
I'm still learning 24/7.
I have submitted a copy of my drivers' license to some several of them. I was concerned that it might be passed along to a client and could serve as a source of ID, but then again, my license photo is so overexposed and so old that it would be hard to distinguish me from any other chunky older female with glasses. And by now the weight is not the same (unfortunately) and age has shortened me by almost an inch and hair style is quite different. But it is an official form of photo ID that I can be required to present under a whole lot of circumstances anyway, so I figure it is not a terribly off the wall suggestion. Several other companies require a current photograph and I cropped a small photo out of a significantly larger digital photo so by the time you get through there are so few pixels that again you would have some difficulty identifying me in a line up from it.
As far as safety, I'm seeing a huge rash of apparent scams and spams -- Tis the Season for fraud.

Good advice, which I will start taking -- don't use links.
They can go anywhere.
Take the time the enter the URL.

As far as DL:

I submitted my DL to exactly 3 companies-- Hated it, and not sure I'll do it again. In fact, there's one other company located in the same state that I live part of the year who I've yet to sign up due to invasive questions, including DL, Insurance info, education, employment and references.
Just too much freakin' work.

2 of the 3 that I did submit a DL scan could not understand how I could have a DL from one state, and my primary address in- another-they kept emailing me to update my DL even though I explained that regardless of the amount of homes I own, I only get one DL, and it happens to be from the state where I got my DL and remained a long time resident --

Don't people in MS know there's such a thing as Vacation Homes and Snow-Birds ??

I love when the scheduler from 1 company gets desperate and tells me all is good on the DL front, even though there's a huge flag on my home page that states:

Submit New DL to enter !!
I submitted a copy of my State photo ID last year to a mystery shop company that I work for as the client requested it. I am not submitting it to companies that just randomly ask for it.
