Usually slow around the holidays?

I'm new - have only been shopping a few months so usually just read and learn. Wanted to ask those of you who have been active in past Decembers if they are usually slower than other months. Any insights appreciated!

The holidays are always a surprise. If we were in a normal economy I would suggest that there would be heavily bonused work because in a normal economy many shoppers decide not to work from about Thanksgiving until January so that they can spend more time on family activities and holiday preparations. Judging from my December spreadsheets for the last two years (and the economy took its dive in about September 2008), there has been about the same level of work available in Decembers as in Novembers and few bonuses.

This year there was so much work available in October and November I suspect that many companies were pushing quarterly work into the early part of the quarter. Several companies posted their December work a couple of weeks ago--well ahead of their normal monthly posting dates and there were fewer jobs than expected. So it is really hard to figure out what the December workload will be.

I started shopping many years ago in December. Back then I picked up a huge amount of bonused shops as a total new face to companies. I doubt that happens that frequently anymore, post the recent economic crisis of the past few years.

Where I live, December is shaping up well. I have 23 shops for a company I usually do 10 for; I have 15 others scheduled and many have not posted yet for the month. Several were exceptionally well paid offers. None were cheapo shops.
I am happy with how December (and November, too) shaped up for this year.
Companies are writing and calling and begging me to do restaurants nowwwwww. I am in cardiac rehab so I really think I oughta slow down the type of food some of these places want me to go buy, huh? lol I tell them no, my "plate is full" literally. They call me back the next day. lol

Call me with some fee shops please instead of asking me to lay out cash and waittttttttt. I did ship about 200 pounds of packages and expect a decent check right before Christmas. My calendar is filling in, but I'm starting to "just say no" to the food ones. I'm taking the nicer ones. Goin' to Charley's place twice next week and an Irish Pub this week. I really like both. But when they called me for buffets and the same ole' stuff, I said no thank you. Charley's pays with a gift certificate and I have a couple of those coming that I can use as gifts.

Grandkids gonna get lots more ff because my son-in-law and I can do those in our sleep....take one bite of everything and bring home leftovers. Then I sit in the nice WiFi and drink Diet Cokes and work on reports. lol
So far my December seems to be slower than other months. Maybe it will pick up as we go along.
Thanks to you all! I guess this just underscores that this is a business that will always be unpredictable. Things had been absolutely dead and then I got a call last night right after posting for a simple shop bonused to $60 and was assigned another one right across the street this morning. No big fee but very convenient for the day. I'm wishing for all of you so generous with your guidance many shops and a great December. Thanks again.
And this morning I have found a ton of December shops and took 16 for December from one company alone.
And I just got four credit shops within the next couple of days in areas where I already had lunch and other anchor shops scheduled!!! Anddddddd was able to schedule all those fast foods around town when I'll be there anyhooooooo. whoooooo hoooooooo. Picked up a framing shop for this evening on top of a couple of package shipping shops, one gas station and lunch. Quiet day, but that's OK. It's raining and I don't feel like doing much. Have to be here when grandkids get off the bus, but that was a small price to pay for having the day to myself instead of carting daughter around. lol
IBARLBAR, I'm working in L.A., and had my busiest Nov. and still going strong. You must be hitting the wrong MSC's, but bonus's are still low and scarce at that.

Irene_L.A...... It did pick up this evening. I have to admit I am not as eager and energetic as all of you guys. 2 or 3 a week is a very good week for me. I take care of my husband who is disabled and do my thing as well. You folks amaze me with your schedules. and Yes, I probably would do well to sign up with other MSCs and probably will after Dec. Best to all of you
Looking back, December 07 was an above average month. December 08 was half that. December 09 was a wee bit less than 08.

December 2010 is shaping up favorably. In October, I was accepting December shops. I have some nice restaurant shops in uptown. My husband and I will enjoy the food and pretty holiday decorations. Reimbursement shops, useful to me, don't appear to be in short supply and will make up about 45% of my haul. The other 55% - FEES! My favorite.
I started the morning with 11 December shops and at this point am up to 29. It has been a good day. Looks as though we will be having dinner at home 5 nights of the first two weeks of the month. Guess I need to hustle and find some more restaurant shops or I'm cooking :^)
I am eating my heart out...did a nice steak dinner in my town tonite, and really afraid of growing out of my clothes before the year ends. I wish I had as much $$ as I have food, won't complain, but geez I'm full. Have a series of phone shops coming up that pay well, had to get them my credit scores, anyone doing these?

OMG Irene, what part of LA County are you from. I'm in the San Gabriel Valley ...so glad you are busy with the shops. I am also afraid of growing out of my clothes with the FF and others during these holidays....smiling smiley

Yay!

Right now, I am at 51 for December and still many are not posted as yet. But this week and next are crazed for me. I work FT and do this for spending money and lifestyle enhancements.
Hannukah is early this year, so schedulers may be panicked about having many shoppers out at both the beginning and the end of December due to family gatherings for holidays. The November/December "flow" is also heavily impaced by how early or late Thanksgiving falls and the number of shopping days between it and Christmas each year.

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Tonight is first eve of Channakah, but we still work during day (at least). I am hoping things here will be bonused toward end of month, we'll see.

ilbarbar, I work in Northridge, Valencia, Burbank and Glendale + monthly visits to Beverly Hills(lots of work there), have a one way 30 mile radius. San Gabriel might not have as much as where I am, but sign with "Tell us About Us", you'll get some easy restaurant's. Good luck.

Thanks Irene, I have been asked to do Tell us About Us and thought I might try them. Thanks!
what companies have work in december.. i work for a few and there is little work this month i work in the long beach area
Joedan, I have also been thinking about why it would be so slow here in SoCal. I think I'd have to go with the economy and the uncertain times we are going through in California as a whole. It's the trickling down effect from government, schools, layoffs, deficit ....down to the retail/restaurants etc. Money they would be spending on shoppings has probably been eliminated in a lot of places. Just my 2cents...good luck!
I didn't do as well as everyone else in November. However, I seem to be quite busy this week and all next week, so far.
I've got 12 shops to do by the 9th and I am quite happy with that. At the holidays my regular work picks up so much and I have many hours added to my part time job. That's all that I will take because the next week I am working 36 or more hours, and besides, it's the week before Christmas.

Carol
The economy is improving, they opened a new area in back of my mall, and it's busy....20 upscale shops and many are shopped, I see this as a very good sign for shoppers.

One MSC paid the December checks really early as a thank you and to use for the holidays. They usually pay on the 20th, but they paid last night. I raked in $593 from November shops, and all but $112 is fee not reimbursement. Wonderful Christmas gift from a great MSC.
I've also stopped complaining about it being slow. Things really picked up around here especially the healthcare shops. I love healthcare shops...pay is pretty good and I can do them in my sleep.
The 'insurance event' shops are going to considerably add to my kitty's balance before year's end. I've only done Trendsource's, and they are nice paying, and easy reporting. Also, a mail-in request for a $10 gift card has been handed out at each one. Grab em if you can.
Mert: What is this about "$10 gift card handed out each time". I was lucky to get a free pen....sad smiley
Here, giveaways are restricted to a value of less than $15. Additionally, on-site snacks and beverages are okay.

The gift card is for gas. I've got a few tankfuls coming my way smiling smiley But, lbarlbar, I have not yet gotten a pen!!
I got pens up the goozo, plus tiny notepad and plastivc (ugly) thing gor pills, no gift cards here.
