Wiring $$ to non-existent person?

There's one of these less than 2 miles from me, finally bonused to where it's worthwhile (just photographing those mile-long receipts takes forever!). The past few times I've done these shops, you "wire" money to someone who's a real person (I've used my sister, a friend, etc.), then cancel.

How does it work when you try to wire to someone who's not a real person? This may be a dumb question, but you have to give them some way for the recipient to be notified of the transaction, right? I haven't applied for the shop yet; is this something that's precisely addressed in the guidelines?

You end up canceling it and getting a refund. The MSC is guaranteeing the refund if the agent refuses.

Oh, I get that. I've done these before. But the guidelines used to say the person you're wiring to "can" be a made-up person. The new shop description on the job board says, "Your 'friend' would be a fictitious person that does not exist."

This sounds like you must make up a fake person, so my question is what do you give for contact info? Do you make up a phone number? I used to give my sister's or brother's name and contact info.

I've never been asked for a telephone number for the recipient before. I would make one up and keep it close to a number that I would remember.
I’m new to shopping and I completions of these yesterday…I will never do it again…it’s too time consuming for 25.00. If all works out, yes, you can cancel and receive your refund..if not you have to call customer service, and either wait at the location for the release, or go to another WU later..l didn’t see the value..

I've done a few of these, and if the location's not busy, they really don't take long. The last one I did, the service counter at the store was crazy busy, and it took me forever to order the transfer and also to cancel it. That particular one was so not worth the time, but when all goes well, they're faster than many $25 shops (like, say, the mattress shops when the salesperson won't stop yakking).

It takes awhile to photograph the miles of receipt, but once you do it once or twice, it goes faster. I've never had a problem getting the refund.
