A new low in the fee department!

I just got an email for a tire shop by phone. I haven't worked for this MSC, so I don't know how they usually pay, but this shop was a whopping $2. That is an all-time low for what I've seen. Do any of you do these for that fee? I thought surely it must be a typo!

I just read that piece of garbage as well. Not even in my area, recorded line. No, it is no typo, it is what we are sinking to. Definitely a shop they can keep.
I read that crap as well. I deleted it. Some fool will sign up for it.
I was called by a MSC on Saturday. They were in a bind and needed me to run out and do two ice cream shops for guess what? $3.00 each. I would have spent twice that much just on gas. I politely declined though because the company sends me some high end shops from time to time. I am sure they found some idiot to do them though. I feel sorry for the people who do a lot of work for Corporate Research. As you all know they are one of the lowest paying companies around but have people in remote areas who have to do $4.00 gas shops. I wish we could form a union some times.
I agree with wjones777 about Corporate Research--low fees and difficult exams to even be allowed to do the shops!!
Last yr., an MSC sent out phone shop offers for $.50; that wasn't a typo, it was 50 cents! I don't recall which specific company, but obviously they failed to attract any interest as I never noticed the offer repeated.
I received the 2.00 phone shop, I did one that paid 15.00, I wish them luck, they need it.

Bestmark has a yogart shop that pays 5.00 and is 10 miles away, not in a mall, so a run is out of the question....perhaps these companies should do their homework before passing on these "opportunities" to the shopper.

OMG. I almost posted about this! Nope, not even DIALING the phone for 2 bucks!!
$2 is pathetic. You know what's worse? $1.25/call. That's what a normally fair-paying company was offering for a series of 30 calls, some of which were long-distance. They calculated that each call would take about 5 minutes to make and enter, so they figured $15/hour was fair pay for dialing a phone.

However, we all know that calls rarely take 5 minutes to both make and enter.

I much prefer $12-15 phone calls. I made some last month that paid $30 per call. Why can't they all be that nice?
I received that email as well. I never did any work for that company. I really could not believe the never. However, I am sure there is some jerk out there who will take the shops.
I got an email for a $2.00 phone shop today as well. I just emailed them back and told them that only an idiot would do a shop for $2.00. They emailed me back and told me of the thousands they have who do these shops. I just emailed them back and told them that they have 2000 idiots for shoppers and that the shoppers are probably so low quality that $2.00 phone shops is all they can get. I now wait for the deactivation email.
I'd dial the phone for $15 an hour.....but I wouldn't write a report in addition to dialing the phone. lolol

I suppose the $2 fee is low if you are used to getting first pick at shops, and usually do the higher paying shops. Personally, I don't see the problem with them. You don't have to leave the house (no gas) you don't have to print anything out (no ink) and you aren't charged long distance. I look at it as getting paid, when I would usually be on facebook.
I would do a phone shop for $5. I think i've done a couple and enter the report while I was talking to them smiling smiley I wonder if they heard the clicking..... hmmm...
Corporate does 50 cent ones a lot.
Go for it folks. They are also famous for sending follow up emails that do not appear but we are responsible for knowing what is in something that does not appear.
Hilarious!

I have done phone shops for as low as $7 or $8, and some quite a bit higher, but I still think $2 is insulting. But whatever. If someone else figures it's worth their time, then fine. I'll hold out for the ones that are 4 times and more higher than that. I'm sure the MSC is getting a WHOLE LOT MORE than $2 for it!

If they aren't they must be more desperate for work than even shoppers!
I do some $2.50 phone shops that are truly, as the MSC's are wont to say, "quick and easy". Some phone shops I've done are $3.50 and a few are $7 and $10. wish I'd. See a $30 phone shop!

I guess it all depends on your situation; I am unable to drive due to an injury and surgery, so I am very thankful for phone shops! That said, I doubt I'd do any for less than $2.50 unless they were 2-minute calls with quick, narrative-free reports.

I actually did about 100 of those if you are talking about the pizza shops. They ended up being rather easy because to report, they just all sort of rolled into one report.
It seems quite a few shoppers find value in these VERY low paid shops. Unfortunately for those of us who don't the chances are very good the prices will never go up if they are able to fill their needs with people who are willing to work for breadcrumbs.
Yes, sometimes when one's circumstances change, even breadcrumbs are appreciated.

This has always been a touchy subject. Truly, it's to each her/his own. And no one should feel guilty or holier than thou.

I have done the cheapest of the cheap, and if I'm in the right place at the right time, the highest of the high (maybe?). It's a personal decision for me. I willingly take phone shops when I can glean valuable-to-me info, or when it's a quick Yes/No/NA report. I recently made $46.50 in phone shops which were completed in less than 3.5 hours. No expenses incurred, and it didn't matter what I was wearing. It doesn't matter how many, or how few, phone calls were made.
I've gotten my daughter signed up with companies that I know do a some phone or internet inquiry shops. She has heart disease and can't go out to work to have any income at all. When I see a $3 internet or phone shop, I grab them for her and she does them. It doesn't give her much, but to have a little pocket money that you earned yourself gives her a little boost to her self esteem. Circumstances are important in the mix when you consider why people take the low paying shops. I personally am one of those that doesn't leave the driveway until there's a pile of cash to be made or other perks, but those little phone call shops or a quick email setting up car service appointments make the day of a shut-in. I don't think she'd even touch it for $.50 though. lol

Unfortunately a lot of the mystery shopping companies seem to operate on the following premise. Let's offer x job for $5 and if we get enough people next go around let's offer $4 and so on. Where is it going to stop? Wonder how much those $2 phone shops will be next time

This is so true. I have seen it happen with certain shops that I try to get and can never get. I have seen one choc. shop go from $8 to $5 and even at $5 I can never get it even when I respond rather quickly to the email. Won't be surprised when I see the price drop even more.
It's supply and demand. I wish fees were higher, too, but I need the work. Some dollars is better than no dollars when you can't get out of your house.
For me to use my minutes on my cell, I would have to say no. I gave up my landline, so, I would be wasting $$....

Google voice is a great option for smartphone owners who need to save minutes. When I am at home, I connect to wifi with my phone and make outbound calls via the Google Voice app on my handset. It picks up the caller ID setting for my phone and hides my number when my phone's thus set. Next year, Google may charge, but for now it is free to call within the United States.

I also have my phone forward to my Google Voice voicemail on busy/no answer; it is handy receiving transcribed messages via e-mail; the transcription is not flawless by any means, but you get the gist of the message and can listen to the original. The transcriptions can be pretty amusing when wrong.
The various phone shops I've seen all have said you cannot use a cell phone, you must have a land line. I've always wondered why that is. Many folks would make an inquiry call to a place with their cell phone, so why can't they be shopped that way? Anyone know?

I do them on my cell phone with no problem at all. How in the world would anyone know? If they can understand you on your phone, and anything necessary to record records, what difference does it make. Many folks don't even own landlines anymore.
