Needed: Reasons to get an oil change at a car dealer that's not the dealer for your car!

Hi everyone! I need your collective brain power for a reason to get an oil change at a dealer that's not the dealer for your specific car brand. Especially because the car dealer for my car is right down the road!

I was thinking I could say something like, my coworkers friend recommended it but I feel like it's a weak excuse. Then again, if I save $75 who cares if it's a weak excuse, right?

I agree with @prince, it is doubtful that they would even ask.

BUT.....in the event that they do, maybe you could say something to the effect that you "went there once" but received such bad customer service that you would never go there again, and that you heard this place you're at today had great customer service!
Car dealers get every make and model of used cars as trade-ins. They service all of them. As far as why not the dealer down the road, tell them (if asked) that you were not happy there and don't want to say anything more. Warning - is it the same dealership group? If it is, they could probably look you up in the customer data base that the owner group shares online (many do, some don't).

Call to get the price (to ensure it is still worth doing the shop) and book the appointment.

I doubt they will question as it would be lost business for them to suggest you get your oil changed down the road.
Why would you need a reason to get an oil change from a dealer that sells your car brand? You can get an oil change anywhere you want, instead of paying the high dealer prices and waiting an extra long time.
I may have misunderstood the original question but I read it as that the car brand is different from the dealership brand and OP needed reasons why they would be taking, for example, a Ford to a Honda dealer to get an oil change.
I've never been asked. I'm sure they like the business. If asked, you could always say you've had problems with the other dealership.
I take my Nissan all the time to a Chrysler dealership. It helps that I used to have a Chrysler vehicle so I started using the dealership then but I've never been asked. I've also used another dealership in a town 30 miles away and nobody cares.
If asked, just tell them that since you have an EV (Electric Vehicle) you wanted their specific EV oil change. (Oh, and please come back here and share their response) ROFL!
When I used to have a make different than the make the dealership sells, nobody ever asked me why I took my vehicle there. Maybe they assume it's the express service they offer.

I now take my husband's car, which is the brand for the dealer, there. But we have another non-dealer brand, and I'll probably take that one next time I do the oil-change shop.

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
Yes! This was my question! But it sounds like it's not a big issue or a mystery shopper giveaway if I show up with a Fort to a Honda dealer.

Thank you everyone for your ideas smiling smiley

The list is endless.

"You are convenient. They aren't."
"One of their mechanics/sales people hit on me me/my spouse/my partner/my kid."
"They screwed me once. Never again."
"I heard that they were mobbed up."
"I read that you have better oil."
"I liked your ad."
"I/my spouse/my niece/nephew/kid/cousin worked for you years ago."
"They didn't impress me."
"They left my car smelling like dirty socks."
"I am involved in litigation with them."
"I own stock in your company, not theirs."
"I only buy Edsel, but my Edsel is fine. It just needs an oil change. Every time I go there, the new car salesperson sees me coming and tries to tell me that its time to buy a new Edsel."
"They raised their price. What's yours?"
"I have a coupon for you guys."
"I like to spread the wealth."
"My parent/spouse/partner/kid/neighbor bet me that I couldn't take my Edsel to a Studebaker dealership. If you do my oil change, I get a pizza."
"I am/my spouse is an accountant. They are a client. We aren't allowed to do business with them."
"My Ex- works there."
"My late spouse/partner worked there. I tear up every time I go in there."
"What do you care? I have money. You take that, right?"
"I remember when companies used to appreciate new customers."
"They close too early."

Regularly do these with non dealership brand and have never been asked for a reason. Money talks.

The MSC specifies the location to be visited. They are all dealerships for a specific brand. I think that is what you are asking.

Okay, I think I get it. When I've done these for other MSCs my car and the dealership were the same brand. Had I taken a non-brand car to the dealership I would not have been paid. This appears to be a different type of shop.

But that's exactly what happened to me once, I brought my Honda for an oil change shop at a Jeep Chrysler Dodge dealer and they tried to tell me to get the oil changed at the Honda dealership that was practically across the street. I dug in my heels and said I'd gotten the oil changed at the Chrysler place before (I had, on a previous shop) and was happy with it. They backed off and took my car.
I always think it's better to cover my bases and have a back story that may or may not have to be used.

I had the same occur and was ID'd as a mystery shopper. I was able to get back on the program after a couple of years.

As long as we live in a free America, we are free to get our car's oil changed wherever we wish. That particular right has not been overruled by the Supreme Court yet. lol
I’ve done those before — it’s no big issue, and I’ve never been asked about it. In fact, it seems like most dealers are doing an “express lube” sort of setup which means they actively promote doing oil changes on all makes and models — and would love the business. I’m pretty sure I know which shop OP is talking about, and more of those dealers, at least around here, are doing exactly that.
