Why do we need a vest? What will we be doing? Where do you get the vest and how much do they costs? Thanks

You are also allowed to wear a high visibility shirt if not using a vest. It is required because you will be walking around to the pumps and it shows the customers you are doing a job and for your safety. They vary in price from approximately $9.99-$17.99. Sometimes much less online, or other places, including thrift shops.
You need a vest as you will be walking in areas that are frequented by traffic such as moving cars and trucks. You want to be brightly seen by the drivers. Also the vests make you look somewhat official so you mostly get ignored by the homeless and crazies in some of the sketchy neighborhoods smiling smiley

You can pick up a vest on Amazon for around $10-15. If you go to any of the in person meetups IPSOS has, they usually will be passing them out.
The last traffic vest I bought I got on Amazon for $4.50. It wasn't really that long ago but it did come on the slow boat from China. It's also the best best I've ever owned because it's got lots and lots of pockets and big Pockets too.
I got one for free from the county when
I volunteered to direct traffic after a hurricane.
Harbor Freight has them cheap. If you can safely stop on the highway you can get one free. They seem to be the #1 item to fly off of work trucks.
I got mine at Walmart for $16. I didn't think to check Harbor Freight, as I never go there.
How about one for $0.98 on Amazon? [www.amazon.com]

There are more than 3 dozen priced below $5 on Amazon.

I got my first one cheap, probably on Amazon. It was flimsy and hard to put on and got tangled a lot, especially when it was windy. I could fit in my pants pocket. I later bought a more sturdy, more professional looking vest for about $15-$20, and never regretted it. I even began wearing it when not required, especially at busy staions. Customers see the nice vest and see that I am working and am not just some suspicious person trying to secretly take their picture as part of some nefarious plot against them. (You'd be surprised.) It is safer too. And having a safety vest in your car is actually a good idea as you never know when you might need it.
Yep, mineis always in my car, at the end of the day I put hang it on the passenger seat and zip it up. I can always find it, and my son doesn't get trash on it when he's dumpster diving.
I often feel like the orange vest is a target for the idiot drivers who like to cut through the gas station parking lots at 30 mph so they can avoid an intersection stop light. However, the cheapest place I've found the orange vests are for $1 each at the "99 Cent Stores." You can also get them at Harbor Freight and Boot Barn. Maritz used to give them free to shoppers. I still have about half dozen of them (new). If you are in zone 1 - 6 from zip code 891xx, PM me and I'll send you one with the next mystery USPS shop I get.
The vest is for visibility and safety. You can get one from eBay for $2.

You need a vest for safety so drivers can see you easily. Although one of the first few times I wore it, a driver almost hit me. She didn't apologize after getting out of the car.

I purchased a nicer one. I presume you will be walking around the Shell gas station making observations and taking pictures.
I love that this turned into an opportunity for you and helping another shopper out! Nice!

I bought mine from Walmart for $3.50. It is technically a kid's hunting vest, size XL. But it fits fine and is the bright orange I needed. Done and done!
