I saw some a few years ago that required that you rent a car, park it (there was a tight limit on the number of miles you could drive), and return it the next day. It was of no value if you were in need of a car to actually drive for personal reasons or to mystery shop. I have not seen any rental car shops of any type since at least pre-COVID.

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008
There is a company with airport rental car audits, but you don't keep the car. You rent it and then pull right back around, return it and do a revealed audit.
I was tempted to do these for a nice bonus. But I did not. You’re talking about SIXT right?

It is a shame they are not shopped very often. IMHO...few industries need to be shopped more than rental car agencies. I rent vehicles quite often and seldom do I get one that is in great condition. I get that; a few dings and scratches. I'm talking about dents bigger than a football in one case, cars given to me with the "check engine" light on, cars that are given to me with 1/2 a tank of gas.
Capurato: I was intrigued until it was drive the car off the lot and immediately return and do the reveal. Seems like a waste of everyone's time. Keeping the car for a day or 100 miles would have made it more acceptable.
Fox rental car used to have shops back during the Obama presidency time (1st term). You got to keep it for 24 hours. That made much more sense. I miss those.

They really needed it and STILL DO.

I saw one today that paid almost nothing. They wanted you to rent the car for 1 day and have a $1,000 for a deposit, drive out and drive right back in. Stressing, DO NOT USE FOR PERSONAL USE. Then you had to reveal yourself to the manager and take photos of everything including the offices and restrooms. No thank you.
With demand now exceeding the supply of rental cars, there is no incentive to pay for MS audits.
