Rudy's BBQ

Has anybody done the Rudy's dine-in shops? I looked at the guidelines for the breakfast shop, and it looked very detailed. My location doesn't have gas pumps (and probably not a store, either), so I'd get a break on that at least.

There is a lot of tedious repetition: "Was the parking lot free of pot holes?" must answer in full sentence: "Yes, the parking lot was free of pot holes"
Ugh. I so love feeling like a magpie.

Sounds like I made the right call passing on this one. Thanks!

I do the shop pretty much every month once it becomes bonused. If you're hankering to go out west again, the Del Rio location usually has a nice bonus and you make about $40 on it all together plus reimbursement.

As for the answers...yep they require detailed answers but the questions are pretty straight forward. Each of the three sections has a small narrative as well. I never found them to be too taxing. The one thing I really don't like is that for breakfast, you can get one taco, a side, a desert, and a drink. Nothing is better than having a breakfast taco...and ice cold potato salad and banana pudding! Yum Yum!!! LOL. They should let you get two tacos IMHO. This is one of the reasons you see the breakfast shops stay on the board. I
There aren't enough breakfast tacos involved to get me to drive to Del Rio. -lol- I didn't realize they had banana pudding, though. That could be enough to get me to drive over to the location here. Somebody in town must be doing these because I only ever see the breakfast shop. At what point do the bonuses kick in? This one's at $12, but it's a December shop, not November.

Everybody knows you get creamed corn for breakfast at Rudy's. Or any other meal there for that matter. :-D

If there were Rudy's in my area I'd be all up for shopping them, even if I have to regurgitate complete sentences.

Have synthesizers, will travel...
I did a shop at a bougie Italian place here in town that had corn ravioli on the menu. It sounds disgusting, but I've never tasted anything so delicious. It did my creamed corn-lovin' heart proud.

Showing my age here...that movie Striptease sort of ended my desire for creamed corn...permanently.
I'll say this about Rudy's. They don't get many things wrong. And they get so many "little things" right I think. The chips they have there if you want them to go with your sandwich are Doritos, Lays, etc... No scrub chips or (even worse in my book) the "proprietary" or "house" brand chips. The bottles of beer that are in the ice cooler...Budweiser, Coors, Shiner, etc... names you've heard of. Names you've seen on commercials. The sweeteners and condiments; Equal, Splena, Heinz, Helmanns... The drinks? Coke, Dr. Pepper, sweet/regular tea. The desserts...Nestle, Blue Bell if I recall, .... It seems so odd that so many restaurants get this kind of thing wrong when it is so easy to not screw up. There is a reason all of these things are so popular--people like them!!! Why not sell it to them?

I think the food is a cut or two above average. I have had better BBQ but it's certainly not bad. The smoked turkey breast is excellent (no end pieces please). And they are great about giving you want you want... You get it the way you want. If you want your sausage by the link to make a fold over with the complimentary fresh bread (name brand bread too), you can. If your want it nickle sliced to eat with a fork and dip it into the Sauce (they do have their own sauces), you can. You can sit as long as you like, enjoy the music, watch TV. Nobody bothers you.

I like doing the shops but the lunch and dinner ones go quick.

Great. It's 3am, and now I want some snausage. -lol-

Not to start the Great BBQ Debate of '23, but....I was always a Dickeys girl. I know it's "fake" turkey, but man is it good. The key to my heart is bread, and their rolls dipped in BBQ sauce are sublime. I was sad when the location here closed; they opened one that's attached to a gas station down the road, but it's almost 40 minutes one way.

If I can catch a Rudy's for lunch or dinner, I'll give it a try, but going over there first thing in the morning for a single breakfast taco doesn't blow my skirt up.
