Princess Cruises

As those of you who take cruises know, many cruise lines add a fixed amount gratuity to your cruise bill. (Usually in the $15-$20 a day range.) On most lines that do, you can adjust that amount up or down, if you choose. Lately there has been a trend among some cruisers to remove those gratuities and tip cash to specific employees. On a recent Princess Cruise I considered doing that but learned that the Princess line requires their employees to submit cash tips received to the cruise line for pooling, along with other gratuities collected. I was not mystery shopping on this cruise, but it did make me wonder: Is Princess shopped? If so, do they have you give cash tips to an employee to see if they are pooled? How about other cruise lines? Is there any part of the mystery shop that involves the handling of tips? Just curious if this is addressed in cruise shops.

The cruise lines need to just include the gratuity since it's expected/charged. If you think someone was extraordinary or want to give someone more, you should. But to act like your cruise is X, then tell you port and taxes is Y and then gratuity is Z....just give me the total. I really don't care how the amounts are broken out. I have to pay the cumulative amount anyways.
I think the OP is asking if they can tip for services rendered instead of being forced to tip no matter what as you seem to be okay with.
