Note to self:Check your receipts, keep your pictures on a hard drive

I took a bonused gas staion audit that was about 200 miles from where I live. I managed to grab a bunch of them so the pay out was more than enough to motivate me. It went well, one audit got kicked back to me but I was able to correct the issue on the report, but one of my audits did not...and it ticked me off!!

I went inside the gas station, made my instore purchase of one small candy that was on the counter. I paid 75 cents, in quarters. CSR did not give me a receipt. I thought to myself "Ding!" but the ding would be on me.

I went back to car, fueled up, went back in, did reveal, got a duplicate receipt and took a picture of it without thinking about it, finished report and submitted it. Finshed the route and drove back home. Five days later, the audit gets rejected and sent back for a picture of in store reciept. I know I have it, and go to look at the pictures in my phone.

When I find the picture..I see it...the total is marked as 0.00. What?

I looked thru all my photos in my phone but the picture had the timestamp and location and they all matched. The CSR gave me a receipt with zero tranaction.

I email the editor and pleaded my case, but the report was rejected, and the editor even noted "Sorry about this one..I would approve it if I could but the picture doesn't match and you need a purchase to complete the report."

I was not happy. They offered a nice bonus to finish it but I was not going to drive that far for one gig that I had already put the work in for, it just rubbed me wrong. I kinda understand the editors side of this situation but it doesn't make it easier for me to accept. I did manage to get a few well paying audits on that run so I am not complaining, but let this be a waring to y'all!

I should have checked that damn reciept!

I did a few audits last week as well and had a few tech issues on the road. I don't know if it's just me but Presto app has been kinda lacking since the new upgrade. That's another rant. I finished my weekly run and decided to clean out my photos on my phone on Sunday. The very next day, I get a report kicked back to me and the editor was asking for, you guessed it, a photo that I just deleted.

I tell ya, I can't win for losing sometime. With that said, I'm out to take a quick ride to grab this overall store picture, that somehow didn't upload to Presto but the app still let me upload an incomplete report. Sigh.

Note to self...Back everything up, triple check your paperwork and have a good day out there.

I've had something similar happen when I was on a route. I called the store and talked to the manager. She was able to pull up the right one, took a picture of it, and texted it to me. I was saved on that one. I am sorry that happened to you!

You can't stress out over worrying if something is going to go wrong. It's going to go wrong. All you can do is do your best and keep your head up. We all have days like this.

Shopping Arkansas, Louisiana, & Mississippi.
I can't even count how many times I've had shops returned for receipt issues! Mostly because the register's time was wrong. I never look at that part. I'm guessing you emptied the trash after deleting those photos. I probably would. And the same has happened to me. You are not alone!
My photos are never deleted until payment is in my bank. (adjusting my halo) I'm sorry this happened to you. I DID check a receipt once and the store had rung up my purchase to less than what I was supposed to spend minimum. I went back in and came up with some excuse why I was returning the items after just buying them, added to the total, and was given a brand new receipt.
I am so sorry that happened to you!
Here is what I do as self checking:
All of my photos are always saved on my laptop's hard drive until I perform the same shop again. Otherwise, if I never do the shop again, they remain. My laptop always accompanies me on every shop.
Also, before I leave the site, I review my photos and name them, reviewing again the named photos.
I also have a worksheet for each shop with all the pertinent photos needed listed and the receipts written down.
Those worksheets are where I catch the shop employee's errors in receipts received.
I join everyone in patting you on the back. They could have at least reimbursed you for fuel or time like many will for a closed location.

I still can’t fathom how nickel and diming genuinely hard working IC’s over a 99 cent receipt, while paying us as little as possible, is good for the larger business endeavor.

I’m at the opposite end of the spectrum from a slacker. If they don’t value that, its thier loss.

If they’re willing to cheat me out of a bottom feeder fee to boost their much larger profit margin for a $$ multibillion client who pays them a lot more, that’s a huge ethical lapse I won’t become a casualty for.

I won’t work for free or pay to work.

These concerns are precisely why a minimum wage and labor laws were created after the conditions leading to the civil war in the US over a century ago, followed by the abusive death trap sweatshops using child labor that followed.

I’ve closed my profiles with 3 MSC’s since the first of the year after promising I would value myself, my work ethic, and my skills more than I have previously.

Feels like I’ve lost 50 lbs, and better things have taken their place.

And precisely why so many companies have embraced the "gig" contractor business model - to skirt those regulations. It seems to be working well for them.
You'd think after all these years I'd stick with my MO, but the first time I went off track might cost me.

I had a Famous Highway report kicked back. The email notification indicated the photo receipt needed to show all 4 corners and all the text.

I immediately thought of one where I didn't grab the gas receipt photo onsite, so I dug out the paperwork with both receipts stapled to it, exposed just the fuel receipt, and took the pic before completing the report.

Nope... not that one, which was accepted best I can tell. It's a picture of a receipt that was so long I folded a large blank section underneath, placed it on the red folder I use for a contrasting background and took the picture.

Did I keep the paperwork for the shop that had yet to be accepted? For the first time in ever, I offloaded a huge stack report paperwork that included this one, so I cannot take a new photo. I updated the comments in the Additional Comments section and will keep my fingers crossed.

Have synthesizers, will travel...
I am a bit OCD with my pics and save them for 6 months. I save receipt photos forever in case I lose my hardcopy.

Last month, I did a dinner shop. Trying not to be too obvious, I was taking pics of everything super fast and did not notice that a pic of the side dish was blurry. Not horrible, but not good. I looked for a former visit pic to see if I could sub it out but they had changed serving dishes so nope. (I know I should not do this, but I was desperate). Finally, I asked my friend if she had a photo editing program that might enhance it. She used ChatGPT and it fixed it well. I disclosed it so they wouldn’t see something in coding and come after me. In the scheme of things, a photo if one of two sides was not the biggest error and I think they’d have accepted the shop in any case. But I now double check my pics immediately.

Sometimes the photos really save you. I have had drinks omitted from the receipt and without the photo of the drink, I have no proof I ordered it. If it was required, my whole shop could be rejected. Last night, my bar drink was comped. I had the original receipt in my purse or else I’d have a problem. It would look like I missed a required section of the shop. Right now, I’m probably going to get screwed out of the tip on the drink but that was $2 so I won’t cry over that. Losing the whole shop would have hurt.
