What the what is happening with the internet in general?

Is it just me? I do not think so. In the past year doing internet searches has become more and more annoying. You cannot even get to to a published site and get there without going thru many other sites. I assume that is because they are paying to get in the front of the que. Even to do a simple google search takes you all around the universe and now they have all kinds of ads on Google. Wasn't this supposed to be a wonderful free information highway for everyone.? I suppose it was inevitable. Now everything has to be monetized.

Agreed! But, the ads generate money, therefore more ads. Guess it's just the way things are.

Oh - and going through pages to get to the actual article?

I DESPISE BING. I hate that search engine. Annoying, assanine, ridiculous thing is so not a search engine but an advertising gimic. As soon as I got new laptops I removed the Bing SE and made sure I had Google installed and default to google.

No it's not just you. It is harder to sort through the "Paid" sites to get to what you want.
I also find that this "text enhance" thing is very annoying. Don't know if it's internet in general or just a feature of Windows 7 but I notice that certain key words in a post may be highlighted in blue and underlined. Running your cursor across the word can produce an advertisement for anything from online courses to viagra.

Yeah, Cettie. In your post online courses was in blue. This is new to me in the past month. Anyone know what this is about and how to complain and/or get rid of it? This is the kind of the Orwell was writing about "1984". And I do not think I am being paranoid.
Seriously? I'm using Chrome and nothing is every highlighted on posts here except maybe a link to another thread.

I also tried Bing, like once and said the hell with it.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
I use Chrome also and don't get the blue underlines, but I know what your are talking about Cettie. Cynb I find it very annoying also. Always happens when I am in a hurry and end up getting lost in there trying to find my way back to what I was looking for to begin with.

Is it only going to get worse? I dare say yes yawning smiley(

I am finding googlemaps better but still overly confusing. Just give me a decent map with a decent area around the what I am looking for. I got enough problems with directional stuff.
