Drug Rehab

Hi all,

I have a question. I have a family member which recently came to light has a heroin addiction. She is young around 28. Her family has no money. She has no money nor a job. They have no health insurance. This girl wants help and is in trouble. But because there is no insurance or money we are finding there is no way to get her into an inpatient rehab facility for more than 48 hours.

Can someone please help with information. She lives in Arizona. The family is willing to relocate out of state if it will get her away from troubles. She just needs immediate help. What do you do when you don't have money to pay for it?

First ....it is great news that she wants help. I have no idea how to help tho. If she wants help that is the first step. God bless.
See if she is eligible for Medicaid. Also many facilities have charitable rates for substance abuse, try asking patients accouns. There are also many methodome clinics in the area. They could also point you in the direction of affordable rehab programs. The key is persistance. Many people are reluctant to share these programs.
This sounds crazy, but might work. Email Dr Drew and tell him your story, he has a program on days (chanel 5) and helps people in trouble. He also runs a rehab center in L.A., and can surely help you get to the right place. The best of luck....

Live consciously....
A friend of mine sent her daughter to Eugene, OR to Serenity Lane for inpatient 30 day rehab. From what I understand they have a very high success rate and her daughter is doing great. She is living in a Oxford House now and loves it.
If it was me, first I would see if she was covered by Medicaid, then I would get the word out just as you have done here for more information and thirdly I would sit down and write letters to every rehab facility in the area asking for help. Good luck!
Call the hospital and ask for the social worker. That person should know all sorts of contacts.
Thanks for your ideas and contributions. This girl just started. She isn't a long term addict, but an addict just as much. Although she is a family member, I don't know that much about her. I thought of Dr. Drew and Dr. Phil. Thanks again, keep ideas coming if anyone has anything to share.

smiling smiley God bless ya'll.
Don't rule out the 48hrs inhab. It is a starting point and they will work with you to try to find a solution. It is also a starting point for medicaid medicare they the person is in current need.
I have a family member that has worked in a large in-patient non-profit rehab for over 5 years. I don't know about other states but in the North East- when the addict enters rehab, the rehab will help them get on welfare (public assistance) and this will pay for the rehab.

I'm having a revelation here. Is this why the movement to have welfare recipients take drug tests isn't going anywhere? These are still trying to get clean?
I agree with all the above. Medicaid is income dependant and takes a long time t o apply and get approved. , Try Dr Drew his staff will help. Also call your local county Health Board really. Google mental health services and drug rehab in your area. Even 48 hrs will help her to get a referral. Best of luck. Let us know what happens for info for others
Sorta. Many of them are broke - because of the addiction. They can't hold down any jobs and their families have had it with them - because they have been using... and stealing from their family for years and years. They just can't get clean. So they end up on the street.
This is one time when welfare helps someone that needs the help and helps attempt to get them back on their feet.

I do agree about just getting in the system even if it is only a temp detox thing. Then you will have access to social workers.

Just checking in, how are things going? Are you and your family having any luck finding something that will help your relative?

Thank you. I passed on the information to my Uncle to take care of my cousin. I hope they are able to find something. I am not "supposed" to know there is a problem, shhhhh it's a secret. LOL. I live on the east coast, so I am not sure what is going on for sure. I pray she is finding help she needs. She is a good "kid" just got mixed up in the wrong stuff.

I know all of you were so helpful. Because I don't live there, I had to put my "feelers" out for help. Thanks again...when I hear something, I will let you all in on my secret. smiling smiley
Your best bet is to find one in her state, because if you go out of state she won't be eligible for any sliding fee scale and will have to pay the full fee. Or send her somewhere that she can provide an in-state address for.

If she does the 48-hour that's likely for observation or crisis stabilization, after which they would put her into a residential setting for longer-term treatment. There are places out there, you just need to find them and be a bulldog getting her in. I am a CFO for a tx center here in Iowa. I don't know a lot about other states but I work with people who do, so if you need any help you can send me a private message and I can see what I can do! Best of luck to her.
Thank you josey122.

Apparently in AZ right now you can only get Medicaid if you are pregnant because they are broke. I understand, just isn't helpful when you have someone that needs and wants help. Her mom and dad are still looking and trying. She really, really needs something longer than the 48 hrs, she needs long term inpatient care. Still looking.
