I think I have a solution, Andrew. Since most of the discussions here are on topics that have been discussed previously, we can just copy and paste Flash's wisdom where it fits. It will be like she never left. (sort of)
Hi all! Yes, I’m alive and kicking, though a recent bout of flu due to a flu shot had me wondering for a while. You know, you try to do what is ‘right’ and it really smarts when it comes back to bite you.
I’m also doing what I feel is ‘right’ by being actively involved in the current Presidential elections, and it is not because there is a candidate I truly like but rather because there is a candidate who I feel is truly dangerous. Historically when a society becomes too polarized with ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ the result is Revolution with a capital ‘R’. In 2000 I was not actively engaged in the process beyond casting my own vote. There was the sense of consolation in, “Just how much damage can a President do in 4 years?” We learned the hard way about that one!
So that is what I am up to. I urge you to vote. I urge you to ignore party affiliation. Ignore the rhetoric, cheap promises, the cheap shots by candidates and PACs and the media manipulation. Vote for YOUR best interests. Don’t fail to vote just because there is nobody you can enthusiastically endorse.

In the meantime, I am sending money to good causes, including some ballot initiatives in my state. Early voting starts here next weekend and I shall be on the civic center steps when it opens.
Mystery shoppers: most of you are free to take someone to the voting place on week days, unlike many people who have fixed work schedules. Please think of early voting in your state as an open invitation to you to help someone without easy transportation get to vote! Local campaign headquarters all have lists of people who will need rides, and thanks to early voting, that does not all have to be done on Nov. 6.

I'm active in the voting/election process here too. My husband used to be in politics and he's now the party chairman here. I'm also going to be busy on election day as one of the election inspectors. I haven't missed an election day since I signed up at 18.
