Today's the big day

I hope this excites the group more than Halloween did. Don't want to get into politics here, but I can honestly say this is the most important election in my 62 years. I would say the previous most important ones were the 3 of Roosevelt (1932-1944.) I'm going to a party, where we'll be playing music, eating and watching the returns. But I know I won't make it till the end. sad smiley

Any non-political thoughts on YOUR experience today? Please let's be non-political in this. There are hundreds of other sites to express your politics. Has anyone encountered the long lines predicted? Any amusing anecdotes?

Unforeseen problems?
Parties tonight?.
I know this is a very big day for izzyshop, our new citizen.

We zipped out to the polls this morning about 10AM, giving employed folks a crack at getting their votes in before going to work or sneaking over at lunch time. News reports were that lines were 1-2 hrs long in most places, 3hrs in some and a few were reporting 45 minute lines. Got there, got checked in immediately, were handed paper ballots (2 long pages with issues/people to vote for on both sides) and a pen. We could have waited for a stand up 'booth' with small privacy panels on the sides but really didn't care who knew who we were voting for, so settled down at the table where the poll workers could take a break, have coffee/lunch etc. Got them all bubbled in for the optical scanner, ran them through the machine and they "checked" as having no issues and we were back home by 10:35.

It was a nice opportunity to vote against a County Commissioner who will win but who recently committed our community to a 30 year contract with a sports team that will cost taxpayers supposedly "Only $10 million" but is more likely to cost $8-10 million per year for 30 years.
I did not have to wait to vote.

Our polls closed at 7PM. One polling place had long enough lines at closing time that they were not finished and reporting until just before 11PM. I really really respect those who stood in line for 4 hours to vote!
Some stood 6-7 hours, but not here. Metropolitan areas are ready for huge turnouts, but in some areas the machines kept breaking down.

I went to an election party tonight, where we sat and ate, talked and watched the returns on TV. A few of us hardy ones stayed for the last speech at about midnight. It was worth the wait. If you missed, catch it on Youtube.
What a Great Day for our Contry and for us!!!!
We voted, was about 4 minutes wait,(took more time to unload and load hubby wheelchair than the time to vote), the poll site was five blocks from home and the poll workers (volunnteers) my next door neighbors, was lunch time so I went back home and made turkey breast and pastrami sandwiches for them and the others workers, by the way on the next elections I will sign up to became a volunteer, because they need bilingue people, I am ready to help.
At night was a block potluck with lots of food, we live in a 55+ neighborhood, we knows and take care of each other, we are like family always helping the one that is in need.
Yes sneakers, yesterday was our big day!!!. Thank you.
