Thanksgiving

Is anyone planning a non-traditional Thanksgiving experience? Vegetarian, vegan, great ethnic foods, traveling to some wonderful place? A nontraditional family? A non-family experience?

sneakers,

As done since the mid 1980's, I will be working in a homeless shelter in downtown Yonkers until mid-day and will then have Thanksgiving dinner with my family. I am expecting a big crowd due to the abysmal economic downturn.

Those vegan Tofu-turkeys commonly sold are not too good I am told...and if you ar really into this stuff, I need a organic shampoo that will add body to my thinning hair. Dr. Bronners is good, but my hair always seemed too matted down after using it.

Thanks
I'd like to hear a vegan meal suggestion for thanksgiving too. I'm on 21 days non meat diet and, huh, thanksgiving happens to be in between these weeks.

I also can't do the restaurant shop during this special time..so..no income but no big deal. All I'm consciously thinking these days is meat. smiling smiley

I'm not a vegan, was just trying to cover all bases for unusual celebrations. A friend, however is vegan. Any main dish can be substituted for turkey, since I also doubt you can duplicate the taste with tofu. The point is to make something special. And as everyone in her family isn't vegan, I guess she just skips the turkey and eats the other dishes.

KV--try recipes from the internet. But you can cook anything that you consider special, since Thanksgiving should be about celebration and family, not about food.

My holiday will be a bit unusual. My congregation has a dinner every year for members who have no other plans. The number of diners varies greatly; one year we'll have 75, the next 16. We all contribute one dish, and there's a real sense of community. Some of these people I've known for 30 years, other might be new acquaintances.
