If I had a million dollars....

If you came into a lot of money...

what would you change in your life?

what wouldn't you change?

What would you buy first?

what would you never buy even though you could now afford it?

I would stop teaching, stop shopping, buy a house with enough room for a studio and make art full-time.

what would you change in your life? I would get a house with some property attached, cook more, take more vacations with the kids

what wouldn't you change? I would still only buy things on sale and clip coupons because its a relaxing weekly ritual. I would probably still shop for fun and sanity, and not the $$
What would you buy first? Second car! then full kitchen, all Stainless appliances!

what would you never buy even though you could now afford it? stupid $1000 purses...seriously?
I seriously doubt I would buy a $1000 purse. (Or any purse). Probably would change very little. I am already retired and Shopping for something constructive to do...

Shopping Bama and parts of Georgia.
I'm still learning 24/7.
1. I would take my daughter to France to meet a specialist there who is considered the best in the world for her condition.

2. fly out to my oldest sister's house so that her kids can meet my kids for the first time.

3. pay off debts, including the house

4. fix up the house

5. take classes and sit for the exam to become a Board Certified Lactation Consultant

6. invest wisely so that hubby does not ever have to go back to a 9-5 job and he can finally write the Great American Novel.
Wow. I'm impressed SDG-pretty selfless list. I guess it is reflected in the translation of your moniker.

Wouldn't change a thing. Now if I win the $245 million Powerball this week, that is another story . . .

Most things would stay unchanged, but I probably would buy a modest summer place in Alaska and a boat there to go halibut & salmon fishing for our own consumption.

I would head out to Hawaii, Australia and Brazil to take a look around.

I would make sure of my kids' future financial security and encourage them to spend their lives doing that which they find fascinating and productive for society.
They've actually done studies about the impact of lottery winnings on the lives of the winners and most of them come out not so great. Here's one article for example:

No, most folks get carried away only to realize that money can make one miserable. Everybody has their hand out just in case you will let some fall. Friends and family are resentful because they don't feel you share enough. And after your moment of fame you are not allowed to blend back into the woodwork because of all those folks who want a hand out.

The first big FL Lottery winner was smart. She set up a charitable foundation. Her thing was being a Realtor and her charity has to do with lending/giving in connection with housing for the truly needy if I recall correctly.
My husband and I take pleasure in the simple things, not mansions or Maseratis. I'd hope to get him out of the rat race so he can stop and smell the roses with me. I'd try to provide for the future of our children without depriving them of the satisfaction of making it on their own. After that, I want to be Santa Claus.
I would give this mobile home (own lot included, and it's paid for) to my best friend, and I will pay tax and insurance for the rest of her life.
I would buy for each of my sons an modest house.
I would open a college fund for my grandsons education.
I would buy a modest house close to the beach, so hubby can go fishing every day,an small house is okay.
I would pay our motor home in full.
I would buy my hubby the best electric wheelchair that is in the market.
And if there is any money left over I would pay for the tickets so my hubby sisters and my brother can visit us from Argentina, and we can have the best family reunion ever.
I wouldn't change nothing, life is good anyway, we are rich in our heart, we don't need too much to be happy, my hubby and I have each other, it's all that matter, money don't buy happiness.
I am diggin these answers so far! Thanks for playing...

As I sat in my comfortable chair, with a fun smut mag and cup of tea, gettin' my 'hair did' the other day (it was a shop and fully reimbursed) I realized that if I won the lotto, or became independently wealthy...I could TOTALLY justify getting day of pampering every once in awhile. Then again, I would sit through a movie with sub titles and stale popcorn and STILL enjoy being out of the house for a few hours.......ahhhhhh.

PS- got a killer highlight job the other day for my salon shop...I am looking hot sexy baby! Now to finish losing those 20 baby lbs.....
I always joke with my wife that if we win the lottery and become multimillionaires, we can pay someone to check all the job boards, do all our reports and keep the files all straight for us.

She says it would be nice to be able to hire someone to go with her to thrift stores and Big Lots and carry all her bargains for her.

Seriously, half of the things we do, although we started them out of necessity, have become such a way of life that I can't imagine quitting them.
I would probably not change my life much if I had a million. Guess I'd pay off my mortgage and car loan, but I do so love my thrift shops and garage sales so I probably wouldn't go on a buying spree. Maybe I'd take a cruise. Maybe I'd take early retirement and just shop a little for beer money.
New car for me, pay off every bill, buy house and get trust fund for my daughter. Help some charities, like underprivileged kids and Cancer. Take a great cooking class in France. Stay in my house, but I would travel big time. Stop MSing for a year and travel...if only...think I'll buy a lottery ticket today.

Live consciously....

Anything else would go towards rebuilding retirement funds, all of which have taken huge hits in the past few years.
I would sell my 3 level house and buy a one level condo with a nice view in a place where I could walk to public transportation and to a Zip Cars site. Take my sister to see our ancestral home area in rural Switzerland and ride the trains through the Alps. Make an annual visit to my best friend in England. I would continue shopping to have some "form" to my time and some obligations.

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
I would pay all of my bills. I would set up trust accounts for my children then have a retirement account for my husband and myself. I would re-model my home - add a bathroom - and swap out old appliances for new. I would get solar panels for the roof. My hubby could get a car he likes instead of the van he hates.
My husband would get Lasik surgery. My son would see another specialist besides Shriners (they are awesome) for club feet. Just want a third opinion. If anything was left I would hope to hold on to it. I expect to work and so does my husband, but a little travel money would be nice. The list could go on and on...new laptop, new camera, new new new...
