Maryland Realtors ...restrictions on referrals

I am licensed in NJ and we just heard about your impending restrictions on referring clients to lenders, appraisers, home inspectors, lawyers etc......not being able to refer your clients to reliable vendors could turn an already complicated sequence of events involved to get to closing into a circus!!

Haha dspeakes,

Well, I did! I am a new shopper but thought this general chat section was for chatting about things other than mystery shopping.

Thought there might be some shoppers here who are also Realtors in Maryland.....I am in NJ and we are watching Maryland and their no referral policy.....was just hoping to chat about it.

Doesn't seem too popular, hum?

This is what threw me: we just heard about your impending restrictions

Who is "your"? Because "we" the forum do not have restrictions on realtors. smiling smiley

So that's why I thought maybe you thought you were on another board. I sometimes make an inappropriate post in one of my online groups, thinking I'm in the other online group.

Yes, you can talk about other things in the General Chat area, but putting the message into a context would be helpful. Such as starting off with, "Any other realtors here?" and then bringing up the topic of interest.

FWIW, I agree with you that restricting referrals put a burden onto the buyer in a situation where they would naturally ask the realtor for a referral. I'm in the process of trying to buy a rental house and my knee-jerk reaction is to ask the realtor to refer me to an appraiser, inspector, handyman, etc.

However this can also result in referring people based on getting kickbacks or other favors, which might compromise the relationship by creating a conflict of interest.

Time to build a bigger bridge.
True, there certainly are some sleezzzzzy agents out there......I was active for 30 years and always treated my clients as if they were family. It was a good run but I am burned out. I am considering teaching now. For licensing, continuing ed and motivation.

I thought heading the Topic - "Maryland Realtors" would be clear but thanks for your suggestion...next time I will make it more clear in my post.

have you been shopping long?

Thanks!!!
