Who here watches "reality based" TV?

I'm asking this really because I guess I just do not get it. I am listening to my mother's nightly line up of must see entertainment. I call it "reality based" because the word reality by itself really should never be used in the same sentence as Kardashian.

She watches shows like House Hunters, Property Virgins, HGTV-etc, which really still is not reality as it is so apparently scripted.

Then she gets into the celeb-life-of-the-week-that-must-be-televised stuff: Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Khloe and whoever the other one is in Miami, the Tori and Dean thing, pretty much any celebrity so hard up for attention they crave camera close-up 24/7 she will watch.

I seriously have to ask how the feck does anyone sit through all that? WTF is the fascination of watching media attention @#$%& throw themselves at the camera for a little bit of publicity?

I hear you and live with a person who will watch anything that moves on television with specific preference for such junk as Cops and The Biggest Loser. It blows my mind . . .
I turned on the T.V. at 3:00 when getting home, and watched Oprah. I left the T.V. on all evening, watching all reality shows, and every news chanel.

I recently made a change, the T.V. does not go on...in the evening I read and have started writing short stories. My head is clear, I'm more focused, and creative. What a pleasure, (I've got my life back), and am writing a book about divorce, life, aging and woman's passages....very exciting turning off the Kardashians, Tory Spelling, and whatever frivilous reality show of the moment.

Live consciously....
Not big tv watchers in our house. Hubby likes History Channel, which is a big snooze to me. Is a talent show the same as a reality show? If I remember to tune in, I like So You Think You Can Dance - kids with huge talent. I'd watch House Hunters with your mom, Lisa smiling smiley
Entertaiment is different..I also love "So you think you can dance, great talent on that show. I alsdo watch "Project Runway, as I love all fashion related stuff. Many good shows, I was just using reality shows as an example, being T.V. has gone overboard with them.

Live consciously....
I watch many of the Bravo shows...Top Chef and Top Chef Masters are my must see TV shows. I sense I am going to like Chef Academy as well, but it remains to be seen. I love Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations.

I watch the Real Housewives (Any City) for the hilarity factor...how self-impressed and ridiculous can these people get? They seem to top themselves every season! Its a good laugh for me. It is easy for me to have that one as background noise (I grew up doing my homework in front of the TV, so it has always been background noise for me...) and I can write and input shop reports, grade student work, make art, etc, and just look up every now and then (same as the one soap I have been watching since I was 11.)

I used to watch A&E's Airline, one show about real estate flippers in Charleston, and one about flippers in San Antonio, but I haven't seen those around in a while.

Other than Top Chef/TCM, my favorite shows are Brothers and Sisters, Army Wives and Drop Dead Diva. Mad Men is okay, but I only watch online. I kinda like the one Kyra Sedgewick as a weird detective, as well. I think it's The Closer.

Dee,

I too am a Bravo fan...Master's chef is a great show...watch them all about cooking.

In fact, my latest series of works is based on the Real Housewives (any city). Quotes reinterpretted though my way of thinking and seeing. **They** would not appreciate them, but the work has been earning some praise.

This is my all-time favorite show! I have watched it every season since season 2 (for some reason, missed season 1 altogether). I realize that it's edited but I still enjoy watching them perform the different tasks and interact with each other.

Second to that is Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance. I've watched several of the 'Real Housewives' series, but they are getting so over-the-top it's not fun any more.

It is so ridiculous that it is laughable. That is why I am using it as fodder for my art. They are so self-impressed they remind me of some mystery shoppers. LOL.

Who are the Kardashians anyway? I never heard of them until one of them got married and their pictures were all over the place. Then I found the show and saw part of two of them. Is the step-father the Kardashian or the late father/husband the Kardashian. If Mr Kardashian died 15 years ago he must have rally made his mark and I still never heard of him.

I do watch Dancing with the Stars but only Monday night. I do not care for all the drama on the second night. We have our own reality based show here and it is something like "19 abd Growing." Nex year it will be 20 and Growing. I have never seen it.
The step father is Bruce Jenner, the olympic medalist. Kardashian was their father. I have seen this show from time to time; I have NO CLUE why these people are famous. :-)

Boy, Bruce Jenner has changed. Thank you
I have now gone off cable, and have the basic channels, love it, am able to read more and write...do not miss the crapola!!

I like watching Hells Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares. I was actually suppose to work on a set of Kitchen Nightmares when they filmed a restaurant in my area but then I got sick so they got someone else to take my place..Chef Ramsey is awesome!
I am guilty! It's my guilty pleasure. I love silly relationship shows like The Bachelor, Dating in the Dark, and the latest Conveyor Belt of Love which was great.

I like some fashion shows (What not to wear), as well as make-over shows, and some decorating shows.

I do see a pattern here, and I think it might just be because I'm a girly girl. smiling smiley

Took a while to find out. Kardashian was one of O. J. Simpson lawyers when he was on trial. I just found out from a new article of one of his girls being stalked.
I watched the show "I get that a lot" where they have a celebrity working in a normal job and customers are coming up to them and saying that they look like the celebrity that they are pretending not to be. And the celebrity says...??? ;-0
I have never seen that one. The one my son watches is "Ice Road Truckers". More power to them. I would never be where they are, much less drive a truck there.
I have seen the Ice Road Truckers. What a way to make a living! I also like Income Property on HGTV. They have a guy who brings in his crew to help a homeowner get their basement ready to rent. The results are always fantastic! ;-)
Watching the Bachelor this session, (hope Jake hookups with Ali), so0me of those girls are too much!! Then The Appretice.....Was hooked on Survivor

Live consciously....
Waiting for Top Chef Masters round two, which starts in April. They chose some really exceptional chefs for this one.

I saw one of the stars of "Housewife's of Orange County", on a plane to Vegas. she was so thin it was scary...huge implants and a size 0. Her face had lines in it and she looked scary. I don't watch those shows, enough real stuff on the streets of L.A. Trust me, this is not reality, just fantasy (which would not be mine).

"I Get That A Lot" was pretty funny! I'm also watching The Bachelor, being DVR'd as we speak until the kids are in bed. I will say the Real Houswives of NJ are NOT anything like anyone I know, being a "housewife" in NJ, and all the kids (except two I think) on the show Jersey Shore are from NY, and living in one of the trashiest towns along the shore, Seaside Heights, nick-named "Sleazeside Heights" by us Native Jerseyians. Bottom line is I don't know how much reality is really in reality TV; but it sure is fun to watch and is my guilty pleasure!

Which one was that?

Since I haven't seen the show more than a couple times, I don't know names. She was 6'0 tall (with heels) and wore a blond wig, heavily madeup, looks much better on T.V. than in person, T.V. puts weight on you. Big boobs seems to be a requesite for casting "Orange County Housewifes".

Live consciously....
I don't think any of the OC ones wear wigs. That might be the Atlanta one.

Deech....it's an L.A. thing. The late father Kardashion was a famous Atty. here in L.A., and was on the O.J. case. The step-father Bruce Jenner is the famous gold medallist. The girls are "CELEBRATIES", with a reality show, not famous for their talent, just good looks. Hope that clears up things.
