Are there any space (galaxy) fans here? I'm not referring to Star Trek.

You mean the galaxy in general? I'm a big fan. But then again I don't know if there is a better place to live.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

I took astronomy for my science requirement in college a couple of years ago and the pictures in the textbook were absolutely breathtaking. They also had a program, Skygazer, that we had to download and install. You put in your location, and the program shows you a map of the sky at any date that you put in. There was also a time lapse function that you could see the position of the stars throughout the night. It was neat seeing the constellations "move" through the sky.

For some reason this keeps reminding me of a teacher I had in high school that always used to say he loved us more than dirt. The first time you hear it you're like uhhhhh dirt? Then replies where would we be without dirt???

yeah.. galaxies intrigue me.
I saw this image of galaxy that was shown similar to the neurons in the brain when they were all lit up. We are a universe within ourselves.
I haven't figured out which is more fascinating, how unevolved we are or how arrogant we are to think we are the only sentient beings in the cosmos.

Duh, we'd be without Swiffers.

The reason I ask is because I work for NASA. This agency does amazing things! We send people to the moon; do research in space on the International Space Station; study the Earth's atmosphere; and study the sun, Pluto and Saturn. We are also preparing to send humans to Mars.

I was at Kennedy Space Center last week. To say it was breathtaking is an understatement.

@HonnyBrown , that is AWESOME!! Can you PM me and let me know how to get in the door as a 3D animator?

I've been to Kennedy Space Center, the rocket garden out front brought back great memories. My dad worked for the subcontractor who built all the rockets and missiles for NASA. They did all the projects for Apollo, Mercury, Gemini, Saturn and Titan including the capsule that landed men on the moon. He was allowed to bring me in to see the capsule on a weekend and being a kid, when I had to tie my shoe I sat in its doorway to do so. It was rather exciting for me to be able to visit the Smithsonian a few years back and see it hanging from the ceiling there. For me it had come full circle.

I'm old enough to say I remember being 6 and going to my uncle's house (because he had a tv) to watch the CBS coverage with Walter Cronkite of the first moon landing. I was hooked into space travel, exploration, and sci-fi ever since. If not for my family, I would absolutely sign up for that one way trip to Mars. And who knows? By the time they get around to it, maybe the kids are grown and I'll sign up anyway.

Sorry Paul, but my Dad wants that first seat to Mars!

For Fathers' Day I had NASA TV make some DVDs of the Shuttle program. Dad was like a fat kid in a candy store!

You should have mentioned NASA. Such a great deal has been accomplished in a relatively short time. It always makes me wonder how much more is possible yet in my lifetime.

Paul, the best way to get into NASA is via a contractor. What is a 3D animator?

Cettie (I love it when you shop!),

After my conference, we had a technical tour of the center. When we went to the Visitors' Center, one of the engineers gave me a detailed explanation of the rocket. That was amazing!

After the spacecraft lands, it has 3 seconds of fuel left!

Follow --> [www.nasa.gov] <-- link for the images. I put the app on my Dad's phone. I didn't see him for three days.

Also known as a computer animator. We make all those special effects you see in movies that would otherwise be impossible. Mostly I do automotive work for commercials and marketing videos based on where I work, but I dream of creating those simulations of the Mars rover and other cool NASA space work I see on TV. I've looked around for jobs or contractors staffing there, but never been able to find the right one.
