How to become a Mystery shopper

I was reading our community magazine and see someone actually teaching a Mystery shopping class up here in an adult community school. Charging $20.00 for three hours. She claims she is an Author and Educator, now I know who is taking my jobs......but, not alot of $$ for 3 hours.

What do you expect, Irene? They are a mystery shopper! Anything over $5 per hour is good money ;^)

Kidding aside, I've seen a lot of MS classes at community schools. While I think the concept is about helping people, it also falls into the same category as certification/conventions. How much can you really learn from a 3-hour class?

It probably helps people to jump-start into shopping and will generate even more competition for you, Irene, when the new students go out there and get their feet wet....
My thoughts were as yours Steve, and she has a book to sell, good networking.

I have never seen mystery shopping classes offered any where. Everyone is looking to make a buck, it seems. Maybe we can offer classes here.
I would prefer there not be classes. I've worked hard to develop my talent and my gift of organization and use them to the max to make pretty good money. I don't need competition from people doing it the "easy way". Let them spend the hours reading the forum and researching companies and working their tail off to ferret out all the information I learned the hard way. Serious shoppers only please. I don't want someone taking a $20 class and then getting all the restaurant jobs I use to feed my family. lol

Today I Will Choose Joy!

"Finally, whatever things are good, true, noble, lovely, of good report...if there be any virtue, if there be any praise...think on these things." ....It's a command, not a suggestion!
Of course we as shoppers don't want more competition. I don't have as much problem with the people who are willing to pay cash to learn how to get started as I have with the newbies on the board who start out with Post #1 "I don't want to waste time signing up with lots of companies. Who shops mycity?" or "Signing up with companies and looking for jobs is too time-consuming. Who does Wendys, McD, Chili's, Wal_Mart and Rite-Aid?" The hardest part of mystery shopping is getting signed up and finding jobs. We've all put in the time.
I appreciate the idea of the in-person classes in comparison to the websites that charge you for information that you can get here for free. Everyone learns in their own way.

There will always be competition for jobs, so we are better off to have educated competitors that won't be doing their part to drive fees down. If anything; I would think someone that paid to learn about MSing would want a decent fee structure in place.
i have been tempted to do something like this in my area... yes it would breed more compeitition which might drive prices down and all that jazz... but look at it from the teachers perspective... she can earn money from the class, her book sales, referral fees...

she probably has her own mouths to feed as well...

shopping north west PA and south west ny
You'll never get rich from referral fees, 20.00 for a 3 hour class, or writing a book, been done, never a best seller...smiling smiley

What site is the best if I need to work from home. If I only make enough to pay for medications & gas I would be happy. Any help out there.

Thank's for anything you can advise.
That will depend on where you live. Some companies have more shops in one area than another...winking smiley

Shopping Bama and parts of Georgia.
I'm still learning 24/7.
