Is the wifi really free if it causes an extreme amount of stress?

I'm at a hotel. The front clerk made a point of mentioning their free wifi. I've been "online" for over 30 minutes and have spent maybe 45 seconds of that actually connected to anything.

Lisa, I'm so with you...happened to me in Vegas and my computer got major virus. Just did a Marriott valet pkg., saw sign for free wifi, went inside to have coffee and catch up only to find it's not free, they charge unless your staying there. Starbucks is always fast and safe for me. Good luck!

Darn, that sucks.

Starbucks and Barnes and Noble always work well for me. We just checked out and went over to Burker King. In five minutes here, I've gotten more done than after almost an hour at the hotel.
Hotel "free Wifi" is often a very poor connection. I love the wired hotel connections tho! More and more of them are now included in the nightly price.

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Sheridan has free Wifi that works anywhere in the hotel, love that!! Still not enough give that to you, it is another source of making $$ for them.

McD's parking lots work for me (or inside if I need a drink). Tumbleweed, Buffalo Wild Wings, government buildings, hospitals, Dennys, large churches sometimes, libraries, just to suggest a few where I camp out to work.

"Finally, whatever things are good, true, noble, lovely, of good report...if there be any virtue, if there be any praise...think on these things." ....It's a command, not a suggestion!
There was a positing for free wifi,by state, anyone have the link. I just purchased a new netwook which I want to start using when I am out.
Did my first stress free "wifi" hotel this last weekend. They had free wifi everywhere, rooms, pool..easy to hook into...absolutey no problem, made my stay quite enjoyable.
