Halloween

DH went to Costco today and bought a box of full sized chocolate candy bars and snack sized Oreo cookies for Halloween. He and our crew are so into it. I hope we get lots of kids. Love seeing them in costume. DDs going to a Halloween party next Sat. This friend goes all out. Unbelievable.

No candy or other goodies in our world. We are doing our own little things. I am hunkering down for as many Hallmark movies as I can fit into the few available hours between work and bedtime tonight (this is an annual Hallmark theme that spans from last night until Christmas. Laugh if you must...). Hubby will be immersed in following whatever passes for news regarding Brian/Gabby. [If it were guaranteed not to offend anyone, I would gently point out that people who have been clamoring for Brian to pay for the horrors done to Gabby regardless of whether this involves Brian and/or others are now at least as guilty as whoever did those things to Gabby because of how they treat Brian's family. Where do logic and manners go when these things happen? Does anyone know?] Fortunately, this town provides public, daytime trick-or treating and no one will be disappointed if we do not participate. The lights will be on, so I should at least put up a sign that directs loot seekers to another location. 'The earliest birds, beasts, and other costumed critters got all the Halloween loot. Try again next year.' Or something silly and not too unfriendly.

Granola bars are awaiting Trick R Treaters at my my house. We have between 7---40 each year so I buy with leftovers in mind. This year should be interesting as Oct. 31 is a Sunday and last year was so unique.
There are no children living in our condo building (which you have to be buzzed into), so I'm not even buying any trick or treat candy.

Lots of community events going on that day. I know my kids much rather enjoyed the door to door thingie with their friends and adult chaperones when they were younger. I remember one year, this lady driving around in her car to give out candy. I wish everyone enjoyment on Halloween regardless of how you celebrate.
I stopped in Dollar Tree Saturday and there were packages of glow in the dark necklaces and bracelets. I got 3 packages of each - 12 necklaces and 18 bracelets. I gave them to my niece and nephew on Sunday when they came over for BBQ. They loved them. They are going trick or treating on Halloween and will wear them. I never get any trick or treaters at home so I'm not buying candy.
We got a jumbo pack of candy from Sam's. Costco had no deals on candy. We carved our pumpkin. He has a semi worried/surprised expression. DD would be dressing up as a witch. She already has a broom, pointy hat, and her red dress.
During shops, it was too much fun when the associates showed me fun Halloween things. One, in order to satisfy my oddball sense of humor and make the oldest prom queen in the world, showed me Bride of Frankenstein-- complete with the hair! Another showed me loot bags, loot pumpkins, and a loot stick (or something). Looked like a cross between a lacrosse stick and a magician's thingy from which frogs, or hopping bunnies, might appear. Yes, I am too old to have fun and yes, work is not supposed to be fun. But it is what it is... grinning smiley If I could make Halloween a fun event for someone, I would do it. Alas.

@Shop-et-al, you are never too old to have fun. Make Halloween a fun event for YOURSELF. Do it!
@SEA. You will feel good. Go about your day as you are comfortable with. Me? That's the one day I wear false eyelashes and my witch hat that I dressed with black and white tulle. I love my hat!
How fun! smiling smiley

I did not buy those things, and i do not have costumes. I just needed to ask about something as part of a shop. Usually, I get to ask about typical things. The associates always know where they are. In October, I can change it up and get seasonal. I am out of rotation for the rest of the year and will not be able to find out how enjoyable they make those situations. Every year, the associates rise to the Halloween occasion and then some. I think you do the same thing with your own costume and fun day. I am just planning to stay in, hunker down in my jammies, and watch that day's new Hallmark Christmas movie (there is a new movie every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night. This annual even starts before Halloween and runs until Christmas). I could make a theme, though. I could leave my hair down, put on the granny gown, top that with a cardigan under another cardigan fiy, and pretend to be Amy Farrah Fowler. Or not...

I will not be costumed when I give out the candy. However, one of my housemates will be broadcasting eerie music from her 2nd floor bedroom window. Nothing like a little Bach to scare the little tykes!

My babies looked great tonight. One was a cat, the other was a deer and the eldest was a rabbit. Don't know if I see a theme here but I must say, their painted/make-up faces made their costumes! I had to make a quick pom-pom for the bunny rabbit tail. Home with DH and picked up Mom earlier. She loves giving out candy; she's got a job, LOL!
My driveway is steep and long. My neighborhood is small. At my mailbox, I stick a shepherd’s hook in the ground and hang a jack o lantern on it, filled with treats. My neighbors appreciate that they don’t have to trek up my driveway. Their children take their treats. Parents post pics of their costumed children to our neighborhood page.
We saw the costumed creatures yesterday as they made the rounds of downtown businesses, gathering up loot, getting ooooh's and aaaaaaah's, and having the benefit of a clear, sunny day. Some of them brought their costumed (or nekked) grownups & pets; others worked in groups of kids. Too cute!

Ingredients
6 servings522 cals

1 (8 ounces) package farfalle (bow-tie) pasta
1 pound ground beef 1 small onion, chopped (optional)
1 (28 ounces) jar pasta sauce (or homemade if you make your own which I do sometimes to get lower salt content)
8 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into 1/2 inch cubes (or shredded as I like to use)
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Prep

Ready In

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Fill a large pot with lightly salted water, bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Stir in the bow tie pasta and return to a boil. Boil pasta, stirring occasionally, until cooked through but still firm to the bite, about 12 minutes. Drain well.
Cook and stir ground beef and onion in a large skillet until beef is no longer pink about 5 minutes. Drain fat. Stir in pasta sauce and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer.
Stir cooked pasta and half of the mozzarella cheese into the sauce; toss to combine. Transfer to a 2-quart baking dish. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
Bake in preheated oven until lightly browned and bubbly, 15 to 20 minutes

I would cover it with foil for about 10 of the minutes. My grandkids absolutely loved it. And my husband and I like it too, LOL
We went trick or treating with our daughter's friend. Their neighborhood is full of kids her age. Came back home at about 4 and collected more candy from our neighborhood which is very quiet relatively. Now, I just have to make sure she doesn't eat too much candy.
This is the first year ever that we had zero trick or treaters. The weather was nice, so I don't know what happened. I guess it's a fading trend in these parts. Too bad, but what am I going to do with all that candy?

Take to the day shelter/homeless shelter for those kids whose parents are struggling. They may have already trick or treated and got candy but you never know.
My brother and I watched horror movies all night. My other brother took his kids trick or treating. My nephew was Pikachu and my niece was a cat. They wore the glow in the dark necklaces and bracelets I got them and my brother texted pictures. They dressed their cat in a witch hat and a cape. My niece doesn't like chocolate so she is bringing me all the chocolate she collected. There weren't very many trick or treaters and people gave them huge handfuls of candy.
Hubby came home from his afternoon walk with two small bags of half price candy corn for me. Sometimes it pays to like something not everyone else does.

Kathy,
You are more than welcome to my lifetime allotment of candy corn.

I am busy eating some ex-president's allotment of broccoli, lol.

I'll take both...the broccoli for the main meal and the candy corn for dessert :-)

What a beautiful Sunday for Halloween. We got about half of the kids we usually get. Everyone was respectful, adorable and polite. @Mert, years and years ago when my babies were young, I placed a black kettle full of bagged treats for the kids. Most were respectful and took one. Some were not. One year, a gang of teens rang my doorbell multiple times despite the sign I had on the door that babies were sleeping and to help themselves. They took my kettle and roared up the street all the while spilling everything. My DH ran after them and the chicken littles took off like there was no tomorrow. Some have to spoil it but we moved on.
