Le jardin

Semi finished. Impatiens, wild flowers, sunflowers and something that starts with an N. Tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, cilantro and basil. I want hydrangeas. The peony bushes my Mom planted for us when we bought our home are deep pink, blooming and gorgeous. She's proud of DH for pruning them every year in accordance with her instructions, lol. How about you? What are you planting?

I have some pots of flowers on the patio, mostly geraniums. We can't plant anything that tastes remotely good because our area has a THRIVING deer population that is insatiable and not at all shy.. I feel like we must have neighbors hand feeding.
I cannot plant any types of flower bulbs. Dug up and eaten by critters. I really wanted my stargazer lilies. Going to change the flower border alongside our home. I really want hydrangeas. Any advice?
I've never grown hydrangeas. They used to be uncommon here. Seeing them more.
Our vegetable garden is thriving. Almost a whole row of onions came up from last year. All I can think is we missed them due to sheep destroying the tops ????‍♀️

When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.

Impatiens are gorgeous, full, bushy and flowering. Everything thriving. The Nasturtium flower seeds have sprouted. I want tomatoes NOW, LOL.

My neighbor cut some of her lavender lilies and gave me a bouquet. They smell soooo good!
I’m in the process of designing a 150’ wide garden on the back border of my property. The centerpiece is a giant purple smoke bush that’s growing well beyond its normal height. On either side I planted 40 peony tubers, 2 rows of 10 on each side. All are different in a variety of colors. They’re in their 3rd year so most have at least 3 flowers.

The back L corner is where I’ve been throwing cuttings for decades. I had it all crunched down earlier this year and pushed dead branches into the thicket. The remaining soil is very rich but the surface drops down lower than the rest of the flat garden. I’ve been using large, long and straight tree trunks laying flat to divide the property line and keep weeds at bay. I decided to try a sunken garden for that corner using a nice black wrought iron 2 door gate I got at Homegoods and have the garden surface drop down a couple feet with a squared off log perimeter. A wire fence will be needed around the back of the logs to keep the critters and deer out. Not a fan of mixing veggies and flowers together, so hiding the veggies would be a good option, with the exception of herbs planted on either side of the gate in front of the logs. This is my summer garden project.
