USPS lost my package

Remember a while back we discussed what to do if a pkg labeled HAZMAT didn't arrive at its destination? That almost happened to me. I shipped a book as HAZMAT and was told it was insured up to $100.00. After two weeks it didn't arrive at destination and tracking showed it was 'out for delivery'----for over a week. I went online and filed a complaint that I wanted to know where the pkg was. Next day my son informed me he received the book and all was well. Now it's about 2 weeks later and USPS sent me a formal letter saying they lost the pkg and I can contact someone in Atlanta about the matter. IF the item is valued at more than $25.00. Also I should send photos. Throwing my hands in the air and running out of the room screaming......

Things like that has happened with me too. Sent something to my daughter via regular shop: EPA to NYC. It was in process over the week. Promised 2-3 days for priority. At the same time I shipped 3-4 packages and one was delayed.

P.S. I did such shop on Saturday (the day President visited our town). More likely it cause some delay.

I've been doing some buying and selling this year via eBay.

It can be nuts....watching the tracking info. Sometimes packages will spin around and spend several days just bouncing between nearby hubs before finally making it out to the other coast. ...and vice versa from that side to hear.
Shipping trends are a puzzle...I see postal rates just increased yet again.
Where I live, they've removed a processing station, so we're lucky to still receive our mail. I did some of those USPS shops on a route and mailed 10 packages home. I've yet to receive any of them, despite them being sent out six months ago. I no longer have faith in the postal system.
I did recently such shop and female clerk, likely in training, entered wrong zip code (not 10009 which is Manhattan, NYC but 10003 . The address she entered was not entirelly the one that was on the shipping box. I told her that is wrong. She tried to retype it (with one finger) with advice of another post office associate. So the whole process of entering right address took about 10 minutes. I am rarely give the bad review but for such mystery shop I did.

I do not know if anyone of you remember time when it was a shop involved shipping large amount of stamped letters from Post Office blue box to some addresses in USA for a week. They checked how long it takes for standart delivery. Probably that time to do similar for our boxes. I am going to check tomorrow if all boxes will get to 10009. They promoised by 7/18.
