I like this whole thing of working for beer or fancy coffee money. Makes me still feel a bit engaged, but on my terms...MSing as we know, has its drawbacks. lol.
My grandma did census work when I was a kid. It was her side gig....my grandparents ran a busy dairy operation and she handled the accounting and other work....as a side gig, she took census assignments from the state govt.
She'd take me with her and we'd go on road trips to interview certain small businesses.
The trouble with being young is you don't know the best questions to ask and now she's long gone.
I am sure that's all changed, but I am curious about it...I believe it's also gig work by assignment? generalizing here of course. I think I'll look into it.
So if any of you have knowledge or experience with census related work, please share?
As a side note, four years ago, during the pandemic, I pulled the ripcord on my 35 year career.
Coincedentally or not, last night I checked my email. There it was, a message from my former director....four years of silence and now he pops up to say hello. It's never just a hello. Reminds me of a line from Michael Corleone in Godfather III.

Life was passing like a hand waving from a train I wanted to be on
