advice on a new printer?

Looks like I am going to have to get a new printer/scanner. Any advice?

I have a Brother MFC-7440N printer/scanner/fax which has worked well for me. It takes a toner cartridge which runs $69 to $89 depending on capacity. You can get generic cartridges from Amazon for about $20 to $25 which work great. I changed from an ink cartridge printer because of the prohibitive cost of cartridges and their short life. I found the toner type to be much cheaper per page.

The HP8500A. It's a $300 all-in-one. Copies, scans and faxes. It's inkjet and of course prints in color. The print cost is 50% less than laser. You can email print jobs to it, if you are so inclined. Very user friendly. I got mine at Office Max. Every few weeks, it goes on sale for $159-$179 and if you trade-in your old printer (doesn't even have to work), they'll give you a $50 credit for it.

I'm happy with mine.
I have an HP LaserJet 3015 that was bought on eBay new-in-box for little more than the cost of shipping. It was a discontinued model by about 2 model cycles and has been a little workhorse for the past 6 years. It is an all-in-one that uses toner cartridges. I have always been impressed by the HP printer lines and especially their laser printers. They are durable, reliable and do a quite decent job of what they are supposed to do.

If you decide to go the eBay route, make sure that you google further information out on the internet. There are a number of HP 4500 listed as 'laser' but they are ink jets rather than toner and they are color ink cartridges which you might want for your personal life but there is little need for in mystery shopping.

Take a look at costco.com and ebay for Dell or HP all-in-one printer scanners that print only in black, using toner cartridges, rather than ink. In the first year of using my Dell laser all-in-one, I paid for the unit in what I saved in "ink".

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Target has the HP 1055 3 in 1 printer this week for $24.99. It uses #61 ink carts. I have them refilled locally for $9.99 black or color. Based on the cost of new ink carts, you could buy the printer, resell the ink carts and make money...winking smiley

I'm still learning 24/7.
U may also want to consider a portable printer. This can be just a small printer like the hp 3050 which comes with its own carry bag!
