It appears there will be an abundance of qualified candidates. Who do you think has the most to offer?
So far for me the front runner is Gavin Newsome. He’s the only one who’s taking meaningful steps to challenge the daily oversteps and violations to our constitutional norms. The redistricting/prop 50 is an example, and his outspokenness in going after Rump in his visits to red states. Plus he’s nice looking, which fries Rump’s ass.
I think the experience of a governor from a large state is what is needed to unravel the huge economic mess Rump created. Too bad the VP candidate won’t likely be from the same state. California has the most intelligent and qualified potential candidates in the country. Shifty, Kamala, Swalwell… I’d take them all.

Hahaha. All that has to happen is a new executive order saying that any president can stay in office as long as they like and you won't have to consider the others. It, or something like it, could happen. Watch.

So Trump is going to compose an executive order saying he can remain in office as long as he wants after his term is up? LOL! I’m watching for a major recession and stock market crash long before his term is up. At the rate he’s going, he won’t have one single, disillusioned supporter who relinquished their power for him on his side.

Newsome is going to get a massive boost out of Prop 50 which will pass overwhelmingly. That being said, the Democratic nominee is going to be the one that Southern Black women vote for in the primary, as has been the case for the past few cycles, regardless of whatever other conspiracy theories may claim when pointing to the eventual nominee.

It is interesting to think that Newsome, Whitmer, and Beshear will all be former governors thanks to term limits by the time the 2018 primary comes around. Pritzker can and will run for a third term, which might give him a certain advantage as far as being part of the day to day news cycle.

Assuming that the current trend of blatantly ignoring the Constitution doesn't extend to Trump running again, will MAGA coalesce around Vance, or will it be a free for all given how unlikable he is?

Agreed. Corey Booker, Buttegieg, Pritzker, Beshear, Whitmer and many more have a good shot if they are willing to take a stand. They will have to put their individual ambitions aside and band together, esp. the governors. Really hoping that they will allow Newsome to take the lead, as he will have the most success in fighting back and unifying them The lineup will be comparable to 2008 with many potential VP and cabinet members to choose from. All untouchable without scandal, so demeaning nicknames will be hard for Rump to come by.

The GOP will produce the same ol’ band of misfits, corporate rejects and war mongers that made Rump seem palatable. They ripped each other apart then banded together for a common cause - a $ and power grab. History will repeat itself. JD is a slacker and his true nature is not that of a leader. He agreed to do what Pence had the sense not to, which was the only criteria. Talk about lazy! He takes the cake - and the donut. Well at least he’s no longer on SNAP…

The protests tipped the scales and will continue to do so in the spring. Social Security will be next on the chopping block, and that just won’t do. You can’t jail 3.5 of the population. The courts will hold up and chip away and the police will honor their vow to the constitution, not PT Barnum.

As far as democrats go, I like Gavin Newsome and Andy Beshear. If I had been able to stay in CA while Gov. Moonbeam was still in office, I would have, and I would have been very happy with Gavin Newsome. I've seen many serious interviews with him, and he has always impressed me. And he took a great state, with a great economy and made it even better.

I think, and I've thought about it often lately, that I think KY is a beautiful place, and having a good governor who cares about the people is an even better benefit. McConnell is not seeking another term, and he's gonna die off, probably sooner rather than later, and there seem to be more than enough candidates (republican and democrat) that will step up to take his place. So I have considered getting out of AL and going a little further North. If my kids and grandkids are going to exclude me, I might as well be comfortable and live in true beauty.

I love KY and I love Andy. I truly feel he's what our country needs. I'm in the bluest part of our state and even the Republicans that I know like and respect him. I'm glad we're finally ditching Mitch.

I want the front runner to be mean, in attack mode, and as vicious as a grizzly bear. Cali’s state animal is the grizzly. Newsome needs to become that nasty grizzly bear. Not sure what the Kentucky state animal is but Andy needs to have a vicious streak too. Show some fangs. That’s what’s needed at this time.

Andy Beshear, seems like a VERY NICE man, but not one to be messed with, there is strength in his calmness. Not unlike President Obama, he was always calm and collected, but when he needed to be tough, it wasn't out of his reach. Gavin Newsom is a little more "in your face" and his fierce side isn't hidden as well.

We were two rows behind Andy when Hamilton was on tour at our local performing arts center. Andy was shaking hands and waving at patrons around him. I was able to capture a picture and perhaps one day I can say that I watched Hamilton alongside #48.

Do any of you live in CA? Simply curious. We left after 15 years there. Know Gavin personally, when he was mayor of SF. Watched the state spiral and continue to spriral. I'm back in the Bay Area frequently for work, and its gut wrenching to see what has happened there.

So, no, I would never vote for him. With or without the extra e.

yea Cassie, it's a typing thing. In typing class I had a teacher that taught us to learn that there are certain patterns of letters that go together. "ous", "ing", "ine", etc. I write ling when it should be line very often.. the same with an vs. and, I always type "and" the first time. Lots of words that don't deserve them get an "e" on the end because my fingers keep doing the thing that's become a habit.

As far as SF goes, welcome to post-pandemic America. Cities are struggling across the country. There’s a general feeling of unease with people pulling back, afraid of the future. It leads to depression and social unrest brought on by a leader of the ‘free world’ who is corrupt, and tried to overthrow our democracy. He may continue to be propped up by his underlings for a power grab and to line their own pockets. It needs to be stopped.

Newsom is sending the loudest message that Rump is going for broke. It’s become obvious by the way Rump has made enemies of so many of his own supporters. You don’t need to live in CA to see that Newsom is a very caring, capable leader, which is why he’s supported by all classes in CA.

He’s going to really get under Rump’s skin. Lol! Rump hates how polished and well spoken he is. Rump won’t be able to claim he’s ’better looking’ than him either, like he claimed he was better looking than Mamdami on 60 Minutes. We all know what he’s implying and it’s truly ugly. His dementia can’t be blamed for that. It’s pure racist hate.

The problem with being an independent is there is no independent candidate to vote for, which requires one to lean one way or the other if they want to vote. However you lean will be how you’re ‘identified’ by the nasty ones. Since there are ‘some’ (ok, I’ll call them out by name - kinki and Mavi) who scoff at people who ‘identify’ as anything they don’t like, they will still view you in the same light, unfortunately. The same rational does not apply to them, so they’re probably incapable of self identifying as the ‘nasty’ ones. Calling them out by their identity is a start, although telling them what to do is rather futile. They tell others what to do. That’s how that works.

I was registered as a Republican for most of my life.. But the party changed, and I changed differently. I removed myself from the Republican party in 2012. I have no political affiliation currently, and even though the Democrats did well yesterday, they still have very serious messaging issues, and they are STILL trying to work with Republicans and trying to be "fair." Which is NOT a winning strategy.

I'll never vote for another Republican in this lifetime, it'll take them longer than that to repair their reputation and shake off the stink of Trumpism.

I will continue to monitor politics, and pick the candidates that I believe will serve the people of this country best.

I vote either for or against the plans & platform/positions/past actions of the person who is to be in charge and lead - not parties. I also consider the possibility of the person actually winning. This works for me. I'm a well informed person, if I may say so.
I recognize that others may scoff at that but on the other hand, I see that for many, they view politics as a blood sport - they pick a team and defend it to the end, no matter how things go along the way. Point of fact: January 6th and those who've ended up with a rap sheet on account of it. Suckers.
In many ways, I am not tribal.
I don't care what nasty people think of me....they're often blind and operate with tunnel vision.
