Google Local Guide

MLZ mentioned in another thread that her family member
is a Google Local Guide.

MLZ or anyone who knows, what does a GLG do and how does it provide benefits?

Thank you.

PS/in the shop I did last night, I had to take a photo of a bartender, the person serving me... I was nervous but somehow pulled it off when he didn't see me. I probably won't do that shop again. Service was great and the food was not.

Bfb,
It is a way to post reviews and photos of businesses, and provide feedback of Google maps content.
They have tiers of contributors with progressively flowery titles. I am not sure what the rewards are, if any. None in my experience.
I like to share it when I have outstanding experiences, and to caution about my horrible experiences.
Be sure not to mix mystery shopping with your reviews.
I have reviewed restaurants, banks, auto repair, insurance agents, entertainment venues and more.
Sorry for writing a book.
Bare,

No real benefits. The best thing that happens to my son is he gets discounts and/or free stuff from some of the places when he shows them the pictures he has posted. But it works very well, especially when he shows them the millions of pictures he's posted (yes, I said millions), when folks question why he's taking pictures for mystery shopping. He has also been cautioned several times (by me) about using the same pictures he posts on Google Maps in his shops. So far, he has not.
oh, so that's his MS cover when asked why he's taking photos...ok I get it now, thanks. I must be slow and misunderstood the other post.
So basically any of us could say the same, if questioned.

Millions of pictures? he must have a lot of storage space in his devices smiling smiley I am always worried about running out, so I do periodic photo dumps.

he loads the pictures into Google maps. He doesn't keep them all on his phone.
Aha! So my suspicion was right! Sometimes when I look up a gas station I find certain pictures that look exactly like what would be required for a shop. I thought either a shopper must have posted them or the gas brand was so proud of of their stations, they posted them. I also wondered if a shopper should be doing that, since pre-Google all info we obtained on shops was proprietary. I don't even know what the rules are anymore but I wouldn't feel right doing it.

The local guide thing seems stupid to me. Often,
the guide's "review" is just stars. No words, no reasoning. That's not at all beneficial to the reader.

I WILL write a G-review on experiences if they're excellent or really awful. If a company does an awesome job, others should know and hopefully the company will gain well-deserved extra business. If I get screwed by a business I will return the disfavour with a public verbal flailing. And I have written some scathing reviews.

Ses, be careful reviewing places that you've shopped. It violates your ICA, and even if you don't post the review but someone else did, your shop will be rejected. Ask me how I know...
Oh, no. I only review experiences have on personal time. Never shop-related. But thanks for that caveat, others might need to be reminded.
Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
