How far is to far............?

Recently I have notice on my MFI shop boards I have shops that are in North Carolina? There is nothing wrong with NC but for a shoppers fee of $10 and a reimbursement of $10.50,I really don't want shops in NC.

So how far is to far? I should probably let you know the shop is (one way) 684 miles. And for $20.50, i don't think that would pay for gas. These shops are on my regular shop select. I did not look into the advance shops.

I would do the shops in NC if I was closer (680 miles) closer. I would like to know how NC got on my shoppers list.

Doe anybody esle have "way out" of state shops on their list?

Routinely on the default shops screen I see shops that are more than 175 miles away at a particular location that it would appear nobody wants to do. While the price has gradually increased, it certainly is not worth $25 to go do them. I really don't worry about it much, however, because there have been instances where I was going to be on a road trip and managed to pick up some sweetener for the trip.
I get some e-mails telling me that I should be happy to do whatever shops are in NY state. NY is a lot bigger than, say, Rhode Island. I'm 600+ miles from NYC and approximately a 14 HOUR drive each way to Plattsburgh. Round trip plane tickets don't come with the shops either.

Speaking of long distance, I was getting shops for Marbella, Spain! I wanted to notify MF but I did not have the time. It had my nearby zipcode but I have no idea why the flub...
Well I recently had a scheduler ask me if West Virginia was close to Wisconsin... last I checked it wasn't.

I did travel over 400 miles round trip this weekend for a shop however. It was a reimbursement only, no fee involved shop and many hour long report. Also an absolute dream come true and major memory making weekend. 3 days later and my daughter who is 18 just called from college to thank me again. Distance isn't everything and if I had been somewhere that limited the distance I might never have seen it.
I was once offered via email a shop at an Army PX... in Iraq. I think the fee was $15, but imagine if I qualified for air mileage reimbursement?

What company was that for...and remind me not to shop for them....

I swear, some people have never looked at a map.
I have those North Carolina ones too and I'm in Connecticut! I finally just declined all of them as there were a ton.
It was the purple side that wanted to know if West Virginia and Wisconsin were close to each other.

The OP was referring to the blue side.
3/4 students cannot find Japan... 1/4 students dont know what continent they are on... and i would say most do not know that alaska is 1/3 the size of the entire continental us...

and yes wisconsin is close to west virginia... in a dictionary...

PA is the same way... 150 miles down, 350 miles across... and no allentown is not near erie...

cettie... i got that all the time at college and online... "oh you live in NY how is the big apple?" ... "i dont know you tell me... never been there..." perhaps it is because 70% of ny residents live in NYC... but whatever...

shopping north west PA and south west ny
I get e-mails every day for shops on the east coast and in the south. I live in the Pacific Northwest.
I was calling a customer service rep for a personal (non shopper) issue today. She told me I could go to the convenient office location in Beverly Hills to pick up what I need. As an afterthought, she mentioned San Francisco has an office, too.

Beverly Hills is 400+ miles away. San Francisco is 8 miles away. And she was just 1 state over from California!

eek!

Shopping Oakland, Berkeley, San Francisco, and surrounding cities.
Cool, I get the same questions about how often I go to NYC. Oh yes, every other day or so I hop onto my Lear jet and make a quick trip to go buy myself a cup of espresso.

Got some e-mails this morning asking me to go to Canada. I'd like to tell them to go somewhere else.

I live 45 miles from NYC in CT. Here's the flip of that - when I say how often I go to the City I get "oh wow, isn't Boston closer to Connecticut?" 45 minutes versus 3 hours. Does a geography book not exist any more?

684 miles? uumm, i try to stay within 5-10 miles. usually, i don't like to drive more than 5 miles per every $10 that the shop pays. and i ride a motor scooter that gets 100 mpg in the summer. i don't even drive that far in my car. occasionally, i'll go farther for shops if there are a cluster of them in a single area that can be done on the same day. i think that if i drove 684 miles, i would require at least a $300 bonus, lolol.

Steve....well that got the Christmas songs out of my head! It was a one eyed, one horned flying purple people eater.....
And the jokes that year were that President Eisenhower was going to send a lavendar electric blanket as a Christmas gift to Pope John XXXIII and it would be a 'purple papal heater'.

I just got email for jobs in spain and all over Europe....no airline ticket attached, oh well.....had to say no. My radius is 30 miles for about 3 jobs in a day, and I as well, had a scheduler from VA say she didn't know CA was large, is San Francisco too far...about 400 miles, $20.00 not enough, sorry.

I'm sorry but thats a moron. You didn't know California was so large? Did you not notice it takes up 3/4 of the west coast? I'm sorry but I have no tolerance for idiocy like that. I had a guy insist to me one day that Connecticut was next to Michigan, not New York. And he was in New York.
Smart is smart, but dumb goes to the bone....it is mind blowing how
little most know, and they are in a business like ours, global.

It would be so simple if they would just use maps.google.com I realize some people are geographically challenged, but with the information just a click away how damn hard is it anysmiling smiley
