Did BestMark lose their Big Box client?

I haven't seen any shops for their Big Box client since before the holidays. I know some retail shops stop at that time of year but I haven't seen any for the month of January either. I am not heartbroken because I was getting sick and tired of them anyway. Just curious though.

I have two shops for that client showing up on my list, but they're both of one particular type, and they're the type that seemed to be the hardest to fill in the past. I don't see any of the usual suspects on there anymore.

I'm not too upset about it either. I kind of felt like I was starting to wear out my welcome at that particular client anyway, and had already put myself on a self-imposed blacklist for a couple of locations.
Is that the client that either has or probably will be filing for bankruptcy?

Not sure which big box client you refer to but the one here had four on the board which I grabbed.

It sounds like that two word electronics chain with blue shirted employees that is on a Yahoo news list of possible bankruptcies.

Yet visit anyone one of their NYC area locations and they never seem short of many free spending customers..you just never know what to expect with the world of retail nowadays...
So I should probably spend my reward points and gift cards sooner, rather than later?
I did a shop for them in December and again January. I don't mind the ones that just require you to interact with one associate. Plus, I only live two minutes away so I can't even complain.
Those are my least favorite shops ever. Takes too long to do and the pay is low. I mentioned this to my scheduler once and he proceeded to remove me from those shops. I never have to do one again.

In other news, anyone remember the old (at least five years ago) shops that they did for the discount store with a $50 reimbursement? Those were my favorites.
@raregold - I loved those shops! I wish they'd bring them back! smiling smiley

I'm doing one Monday at a location I've never done before because it fits right into my schedule that day. Since they never paid that well, it won't hurt my feelings much if they do disappear due to bankruptcy which seems to be the consensus from the predictors.
Huh, I have never heard the bankruptcy rumors. I did one this week that was a one person interaction, the two separate departments are not worth it for double the price.
The bankruptcy talk has been going on for the last week or so. My guess is it will be a reorganization and possible closing some stores. Analysts talked about how some of the stores are dark and rather dingy. I've seen that around here and can guess which one's would get slated for closing quickly. There also seems to be too much saturation. Several of our stores were strategically located near Circuit City locations, not really necessary now. I have 3 that are each no more than 10 to 12 minutes away and always go to the newest, which is also the largest.

They were done for the credit card company that run the store's card, not the store itself. The company stopped because it had severe financial problems. The discount store does not seem to shop itself.
Check the BM website and the new policies that have to be signed off, read especially the one explicitly about the big box client and you'll see the new gig that BM got.

Hate to sound like "DUH" but what does "big Box" mean ??
National chain store that is located in a mall or nearby, usually all by itself, not connected to anything. It specializes in only one area. Examples are Home Depot, Lowes, Michaels, Petco, etc. OfficeMax, BM has a big box electronics store client.

I hate that client. I once spent an hour in a half in the store trying to get assistance for a shop. It wasn't busy and I kept seeing employees walking around doing nothing, but rather pretending that they were doing something. And to think I actually considered purchasing my daughter hand held game system from that junkery. Not to mention the purchase requirement/reimbursement. Love Bestmark...hate the price tag store and it's employees.
The new auditing deal BM got with Big Blue was what GFK previously had. I guess BM outbid them on the contract renewal.

I do not think it was just outbid but better understanding of the client. One of the new vps that BM hired (in same pr announcement for the hire with I believe the owner's son or some other close relationship) used to work for six years for the big box client. Big box is very numbers oriented and use only solid equipment for their internal operations, plus they are quick to adopt new technologies. Notice the brand they use for POS and internal computers, only workhorse and has nothing to do with low bids. Compare that with the ancient and clunky website that gfk used.
I like that BM is breaking up the audit into 4 parts so you don't have to do all parts if you don't want too, plus it looks like you wont be required to take 2 days to do it and can do it all in a day if you are efficent enough. Still not sure it is worth my time though. Depends what they offer to do them. I still think these type of involved audits are much quicker if you had two people doing each store at the same time.
