Lottery Ticket Question

Hello all,

Just wondering something about shops where you have to purchase a Lottery ticket. I know it may seem far-fetched, but what if you win? I have not gotten any official answers from the MSC, so I am wondering if any of you fine shoppers may know.

This is a just-in-case-it-happens situation, but I am definitely curious. Anyone know for certain?

Thanks!
Brigid

Not for certain, but does it address the issue in your shop instructions?

When you make a purchase on a shop it is a) yours to dispose of however you may see fit, except generally you can not return it, b) needs to be returned (or sometimes optionally may be kept) as part of a purchase & return shop, c) needs to be submitted to the MSC (fairly rare). While situations b) and c) are usually clearly addressed in shop instructions, the only part of a) that I have ever seen specified is a prohibition against returning the item to the store. Thus the basic assumption is that unless specified otherwise, the purchase is yours.

By extrapolation the same should be true of lottery ticket purchases. Either it is yours, you need to return it as part of a P/R (which cannot be done), or they want you to mail it in to them. Absent instructions to the contrary, good luck on winning!
Thanks Flash.smiling smiley

Winning tickets are not mentioned in the instructions, but I could just imagine striking gold and then some loophole comes up where the ticket is ineligible.

Meh, it's always worth asking. smiling smiley
I believe you generally get to keep gambling wins on casino shops, so why not lottery wins?!

I was thinking the same thing - that would make sense. smiling smiley
Yeah. the winnings are yours. If it's the shop I am thinking it is they advertise it as a free lottery ticket. However, legally the ticket belongs to whoever signs the back. just my thought. smiling smiley
Yeah, I think with lottery tix, possession is all that's required. If you buy a ticket for a friend and they win, you have no legal claim to the winnings.

I mean....that would be a really bad friend to not hook you up, but it would be their winnings.
The disposition of casino winnings vary by MSC. Some do not provide you money to gamble and gambling may or may not be required. If the MSC reimburses gaming, often they require winnings to be turned over. I have only had two where I actually one. One company did not require gambling, the other required it, but did not reimburse for any. In both I kept the relatively small winnings. As far as I know, if you must return them it is usually specified in the guidelines.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
When I did the first job that I had to purchase a lottery ticket I told my scheduler I would send him some money if I won. Twenty five tickets later I have not had to send him a dime....
You take the huge lottery earnings, buy a small jet, head to the islands, where you then write your scheduler that you have circumstances beyond your control and ask if the shop can be rescheduled to the 12th of never.
I've wondered the same thing about the Monopoly game at MCDonald's. But alas what they don't know will never hurt them.
It is interesting when you think about the whole casino thing. They don't advance you the money for gaming, it is your own until you submit an expense reportwinking smiley

Who has lottery and casino shops?
I would definitely ask that upfront. I do those shops myself, and suppose that since I have never won a nickel, it has not crossed my mind. However, I have recently done shops where the home community was giving away $5 gift cards to a popular ice cream shop and I received 2 of them. At first, I thought, "Woo-Hoo!", but then remembered those probably don't belong to me just like the cruise I may have won by filling out a guest card. Good thing I either remembered that or reminded myself that I am lactose intolerant, because I received an e-mail from the company requesting that I return them (at their expense). Either way, if something "free" is up for grabs, I would definitely clarify how it should be handled before the shop takes place, or as soon as possible after you hit the jackpot!! smiling smiley
The lottery tickets are yours just like the paper clips you buy at office stores, the whatever else you buy. It may be worth nothing or something. Gosh I buy retired Yankee Candle scents on any shop that I can for my purchase item and then resell on ebay for whatever the retired Yankee Candle is fetching. I have done the lottery ticket shops for years and don't believe I have ever even won a dollar.
