Horrible mystery shopping day

I set out on my mystery shopping day. First, I drove 35 minutes to a mall for a purchase required shop, only to find I did not have my purse. I found an unwashed check, so I was going to head to a local bank in hopes of cashing it with only an expired debit card as id. Then I get in my car and it would not start. Battery dead. I got my car jumped, but without money could only go home. I can't do my second shop of the day because my car won't start.

And it was for two different companies... No shops completed. One was the first time working with the company. Starting to wonder if mystery shopping is not for me. (and yes, I do have a usually very reliable car.)

Kiddeeokee,
I can guarantee you that every veteran shopper has had at least one day like that or worse. Look at the bright side; you did not lock your keys in the car 35 minutes from home with no way to prove that it was your car.

Email or call your schedulers and ask if they can reschedule, so that you are not considered a flake. If they are human, they would rather reschedule than cancel your shops.

Thanks! You have a point there. I had my kiddo with me and it was hot... But we did get home safely. I have emailed / called both schedulers. Hopefully I am not put on the flake list.

I have offered to redo shop number one next week, and shop number two tomorrow. I did not get a response, but the shop was deleted on the first one. I feel horrible being a flake today, but I can only do what I can do.

I like the shops at both of these companies, and really hope they do not bann me. If so... It is what it is. I do this for fun and am not dependent on the income. However I take commitments seriously so I really feel bad about this day that started so well.
Send them a scanned copy of the receipt for the new batterysmiling smiley

Good idea! Will do. That helps for shop number two. I only used one excuse (purse) for number one, and battery for number two. As much as I wanted to tell her I was stuck at the mall and my car wouldn't start in addition to forgetting my purse... That sounds far fetched, so I limited it to my purse.

As soon as hubby comes home with the battery, I will grab that receipt.
Yes, and tell them exactly what happened. Believe me, many of the schedulers are accommodating. And if they aren't, then don't worry. There are other MSCs. I used to get so upset and later realized, it was not worth it. Ask if you can reschedule. Good luck!
Sad thing is I was really hoping to get another Christmas present for my little boy. That shop is perfect for him.
I'm sure they have also had those, when it rains it pours, days.

It really did pour. And started so well with getting a good start on the day. Oh well.

At least it was the battery and mall security came out to save the day. And I was in a garage so it wasn't too hot for my baby. Hopefully both companies give me a second chance, but if not, at least we got home safe.

I guess I will apply to more companies.
I'm sending you a virtual hug, Kid! Isn't funny how sometimes the most far fetched things that happen to us are like the hardest things to explain to someone. I am the worlds BIGGEST klutz, I swear! I once tripped over networking cable, fell into a counter that had a candle on it, sent the candle flying into a roll of paper towel, set the paper towel on fire. The velocity of the candle shot the flaming roll of paper towel into a stack of paper bags, setting THAT on fire, and ALL because I tripped!

Seriously, if it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. Telling that story as a joke, though, no one ever believes me (that it's that bad). It's _that bad_ and WORSE. =DDD

I'm really sorry about your bum day. I hope one bad day means a dozen good ones. =D

Sending the best,

Jen
most companies will reschedule rather then try to find another shopper, especially if their deadline is near.

All of us shoppers have had a day here or there where nothing goes right.

I do extensive route shopping and nothing like the only way in and out of an area being shutdown and stuck on the highway for 4+ hours with nowhere to go while they cleared a fuel tanker mess!

Thanks for the virtual hug! Needed that!

I have offered to do shop number two tomorrow (worst day for me but will make it work.) and shop number one looks like it was reassigned, but would be willing to go out there again as a good faith effort.

Waiting for hubby to bring me a battery and receipt prior to making additional contact. I shoulda just said battery for both shops. But I was already out there so I said the truth... Being dumb and forgetting purse (it is ALWAYS in my car except today)
So sorry to hear you had a bad day. I was in an automobile accident on a day that I had several shops. Alot of damage to my car, but I was ok. I completed the shops, but I was very shaken.

Hope you can get some rescheduled and days like this are few and far between!
I'm sorry to hear about your day. I can really relate. A few months back I was doing a image-audit type shop at a gas station and after I got my gas, my car would not start. I managed to get it pushed to the side of the station and then I called a guy I know that is a mobile mechanic, but he was tied up and could not help me. Luckily a guy came along in a van that was a mobile mechanic and rescued me. I guess everyone has these type days. If you drive on a daily basis the odds are you are going to have car trouble. I hope everything works out for you. I would think the MSC would understand your sitution.
So sorry you had such a horrible, stressful day. Hope the bad luck is all behind you now and tomorrow will be much better.
Sorry to hear about your challenging experience. You have probably hit a mystery shop low so it's all up from here.
jentodd,
That accident is right up there with some of Cettie's adventures in disaster! Thanks for sharing!

Kiddeokee,
Now you have an experience that you can relate to the next shopper who posts about a terrible, awful shopping day to show that stuff happens to all of us. Sending more hugs.

Shop number two will be completed today. Hubby got up and fixed my battery this morning and I snuck out to the car to find the receipt that I emailed to the MSC. He does not understand why I do mystery shopping so I keep it quiet.

I am waiting to find out if I can get one more shop to that mall today... But will do an excellent report for them regardless and email her as soon as I have done the legwork of the shop and begin working on the paperwork part.
How do you keep it quiet at tax time, LOL!

kid don't get put off MS. We have all had those things happen. I took my motorcycle to a MS last week, it died on me and I pulled too fast into a gravel driveway and dumped. I managed to get hold of my hubby and he came and gave me the car and I completed the shops but it really made me feel bad for the rest of the day.

I think the schedulers know that these things happen sometimes.
I'm nearly too embarassed to admit my parking-garage mishap: After getting back into my car and starting the engine, I decided to drive forward through empty parking spaces in front of me (rather than backing up and having to drive a loop around the garage). As I pulled forward a few feet at a slow speed, I turned sharply to turn into the traffic lane ... *crunch* ... I completely did not see the *invisible* post! I backed up a foot and got out to survey the damage: my headlight assembly was cracked, but since my tire had hit the post, there wasn't much body damage. I got back in my car, put it in drive, and ... *klunk* ... the front side of my car dropped down as the wheel came apart from the now-broken axle. Brake fluid from the now-severed line began leaking. Ugh. Fast-forward to the part where my insurance company couldn't find a tow-truck that would try to remove my car from the 6'2"-clearance underground garage ... you get the idea. I'm still embarassed and blown away that so much damage could result from my tire running into a post at low speed -- apparently it was because I had the wheel cranked sharply when I hit the post. UGH. I wonder if my insurance deductible can be included as an unreimbursed expense?! tongue sticking out smiley
Yes, we have all been there. My wife reminds me, after a big hug, that some days you are the bug and some days you are the windshield.
LOL! I don't want to be the bug or the windshield!!! I want to be inside the car with the AC and the radio blasting!!!

DARK CHOCOLATE SAVES THE DAY!

Live consciously....
Yesterday was not much better... Was walking thru the mall with my sleeping baby. Went down the ramp and kerplunk goes the stroller and it fell backwards. Kid was startled awake and screaming, but thankfully not hurt. Fortunately a kind mommy and her daughter helped me gather my stuff that had gone flying while I tended to screaming kiddo.

Minding my own business at a red light when SMASH, my passenger side window exploded all over me. (Don't ask..I don't know why except I heard a loud bang 1/4 second before it happened.) Completed one gas station shop and went home. Had to cancel one shop. Really bummed out...+$300 to repair...a few bottles of wine made me feel a bit better and the car is ready to roll again...I have to do a lot more shops to make up that $300+..I'm considering taking it as a deduction.???
