So, I don't know if this is "acceptable" or not. If it isn't, maybe the powers that be will simply delete the post (which is fine). I know that we are all here for eachother, but there were times when I got started that I needed help while actually on a shop and posting a question and praying that I got a response before I had to leave a site didn't always work.

So, here is my offer.....

I will give my phone number to anyone who asks for it via PM. I am available from 7 AM til 10 PM mountain time. My area of expertise is in Theater checks, FF shops and gas station revealed audits. Thanks!

shoot, probably not the best forum area for this. Please move. thanks!

Robin, keep in mind this is a public forum. You can see by the amount of spam we get that it is relatively easy to register. Do you really want to have your phone number floating around? It is certainly a most helpful offer and I applaud you for wanting to be available to help. IMHO, you should be careful.

lol I know, and thanks. I have thought about that. That is actually the reason I didn't put the number right on the post. I figure that MOST people that ask for it need legitimate help. Any "crazies" that are willing to come out to the sticks to "get me" are more desperate than I am. smiling smiley

I wasn't exactly thinking of anyone coming to get you, lol!

Your offer is generous, however, take care. I have gotton many PM's from lurkers just asking for names of clients and companies (many). You will get these as well, and unable to help. Their problems aren't yours, we can help only if we're able. Phones calls, not such a good idea. I suggest shoppers in immediate trouble, call your schedulers.

Well, now you are!

I know, Irene. But I have felt helpless at times, and I feel bad. It isn't always easy to get in touch with schedulers nights or on weekends. If you wait until you hear back from the scheduler, they get mad at you because the report is late!

Many shoppers work without a forum, taking care of their own business....
we are lucky to have a forum, but, it goes so far. Giving out your phone# is plain dangerous to say the most, and annoying to say the least.

There's another potential issue. We always tell shoppers to contact their scheduler because we don't always know the guidelines. Regardless of how many times we have performed a shop, there is the possibility guidelines have been changed or special instructions have been given. You may be opening up yourself to some pissed off shoppers if they decide that your advice trumps the instructions.

If you are going to be so nice and kind, please be safe as well. Go to voice.google.com, and get a free number that directs to your phone. This will allow you a) to keep your real number hidden and b) much more flexibility if spammers find you. You can set Google Voice to send people straight to voice mail (and google voice transcribes voice mail into text, so u don't have to listne) or block their numbers. Googl ewill also automatically block phone numbers associated with spam. Tons of other neat features, but you won't need them. We only need the protective ones.

Google voice is free and I urge of you to practice safe phone habits smiling smiley I don't want any little Robin's running around.
