MSC Regions or Locatio

I just started -- is there a way to determine what mystery shopping companies may be active in your geographical region other than completing the sign-up process?

No sorry not really. For the most part, MSC companies will contract for it with a specific company for all ther locations nationwide. That means with any given company they could have all of the locations for company ABC throughout the country but that may be the only shop that they have in your area at all. Also, companies change MSCs so frequently that what they have today is not reflective of what they may have in a few weeks or months. The best advice anyone will give you is to just keep signing up with all the companies you can find.
I'm afraid Shelly is right. You just have to start signing up with as many as you can.
I wish MSC's would let you do a test search, or something along those lines, before you apply. That way, you could judge if you wanted to proceed with the application process. They could show you a listing of jobs currently available in your area (if there are any) but without the links to actually apply.

For the simple applications, I guess it's really not that big of a deal; but for the ones who require writing samples or multiple essay-style questions, it would be a *huge* time-saver.

I actually found an MSC who did, indeed, have a test-search type thing before applying... and I loved it! If one can do it, others should be able to figure it out.

The problem with that is you may be writing off companies that could be very lucrative at sometime in the future. Applying and registering are always more difficult in the beginning when there are so many companies and so little time. Do yourself a favor and utilize some timesavers. There are various programs that will fill in many of the forms for you. Google Chrome is my fav right now and Roboform is another. Save some writing samples in a word program and just copy/paste into new applications.
