Your credit score WILL be impacted. I like that my Discover credit card puts my credit score on my bill monthly and gives me a line chart of how my credit has varied from month to month. The month after I open a new bank or credit or brokerage account my credit will dip. Then it goes back up again over the next few months. If I close an account it also dips. I try not to have more than 5 new 'credit events' in a year. This would include applying for any kind of loan or financing, entering into a cell phone contract, getting quotes for auto insurance, opening or closing an account. While I don't anticipate needing to get any loans (auto or mortgage etc.) I want my credit score high enough I pay the lowest possible rates if I do need to borrow.

to my phone. I never, ever allow anyone to run a credit check (even those who claim it is a "soft credit check").

When you open a bank account now a days, the bank can and many do check your credit. I think, if there are a lot of inquires of your credit history, it can cause a slight variation in your credit score. One example would be to apply for more than one credit card in a short period of time. Personally, I would not do that but it is a personal preference. If you apply for a credit card they check your credit history, so parkcitybrian I am a little confused by what kind of assignments you are doing that do not require that. I think the topic was about applying for a credit card or opening a bank account. They have to have other bank shops like inquires without applications.
