Hi I just want to say hello. I'm new to this forum. I also want give everyone a headsup

Out of the blue I was called by Maritz today for a potential shop offer. ( If asked or allowed I can name the recruiter who called me. ) Anyway, maybe this person expected an immediate acceptance on my part without my inquiring about the shop, i.e., the pay, the time involved, the type. I don't know. But when I started asking these very important questions the recruiter became very uncomfortable after telling me that for a nominal fee which is below minimum wage mind you-- in the 1st place,-- the shop would take about 10 minutes, and after I told her that that didn't at all sound realistic.

When I continued to probe, she told me I didn't sound interested!--To which I replied, "I'm interested in being told the truth about the job I may do and the pay associated with it, goodbye!

Bottomline as a caveat to follow shoppers: When the company is unwilling to give you details about a job you may do that will affect you and your pay, beware!

Interesting, which type of shop (don't name client) was the scheduler claiming was only 10 minutes?
It almost sounds like a fake of some kind, there's none of their shops that only take 10 minutes. Are you sure it was really them?

A fee below minimum wage? The federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. The fee was lower than that? I don't know of any shops they do that pay that low.

But Cettie, why would someone pretend to be Maritz and offer such a low shop fee?

Yes, there are shops that take 10 minutes. I perform many of them on a monthly basis. This MSC used to have 10-minute shops but due to the client's cutback on personnel, those 10-minute shops are taking longer these days. I've never see their base shop fee be minimum wage or lower.

OP, I can understand asking questions in a polite way. If you talked to me the way you talked to this scheduler, I would have hung up on you and removed you from the client list.
They do have a number shops I do when the locations are convenient for me which take only 10 minutes. For the time involved, they pay substantially above minimum wage.

As for the phone calls, I love Maritz but I find the constant begging phone calls annoying .... "Just want to make you aware of a shop that's not too far from you (haha, it's an hour away!) ...... can we sign you up... Well, no, there's no bonus ..... it's not so far away ..... we thought you'd want to do it to help us out ...." Since I can self-schedule shops on their website, I schedule myself for any shops I want. Unless their phone call includes the offer of a large bonus, I'm not likely to be interested. Interested or not, I try to behave professionally and to be polite. I still want to retain them as my customer.
I only do one type of shop for Maritz, and they are indeed 10 minute (at the most) shops. I would do them all day long if they weren't so freaking hard to get along with.

I enjoy doing gas stations for them. Last year I did not put gas in my car until August that I was not reimbursed for. I was limited by full gas tank. No I am not going to get rich doing them but then I am doing them with in 10 miles of home or by one of the kids so not going out of my way to do them. They are reveals so I find them a bit more laid back friendly.
