Amusement Advantage - anyone getting shops?

Hi all,

I have been applying for shops for this company for three months now. I have never received a shop, but I have received emails encouraging me to apply for shops, even for some of the exact same shops I had applied for. Other companies I have been able to get shops for, I have not been approved for any of these shops. Anyone else getting shops for this company?

This company does not offer the types of shops I typically seek... However, I would suggest emailing the scheduler directly the next time you apply. Simply express that you would very much like to work for them and have struggled to be assigned shops after multiple attempts.

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
I get shops from them whenever I apply; but I rarely apply because
1. I find their shops intense when I'm at a place trying to spend time with family.
2. I have 4 kids, so I usually end up spending a lot of money to have fun (a lot more than what I get paid) and I just don't have that kind of money all the time
3. And the reports are long.
I get shops with them regularly. If you have never shopped with them before, perhaps (and this is only an uneducated guess) you are not getting assigned because you are selecting higher ticket shops that they might give to people with whom they already have a working relationship and history. If that's the case, maybe applying for one of the lower, more entry level shops might open the door to the higher ticket shops. If that isn't the case, maybe just persistence is key. Good luck!
I would think these shops are more difficult to get during summer months when many people are traveling with or without children, the outdoor weather is good and these are the types of venues tourists go to so your competition is the locals in your area plus the vacationing mystery shoppers. They often only have one shop per month at a particular venue. You also might be limiting the dates you are available for the shops so you might want to speak to the scheduler about that. I would guess if your list of dates is fairly long and you are available to go during the first part of the month the scheduler would prefer that to booking a shop like theirs later in the month since you are unknown to them.
I do get their shops on a regular basis. I usually reply to the email from the scheduler and ask if the shop is still available. Their scheduler is very responsive.
The first shop I got with them I begged the scheduler for because I would be on vacation and already planning to visit this place. After I completed that one, I haven't had trouble getting assigned by them whenever I want one of their shops though that is rare.
What do these folks do? Is it like put-put and bowling adventures? I went to sign up for them once but I remember a minimum 1000 word example and I basically closed the app. I don't feel comfortable sharing info from a shop from another company even for applications, nor will I just make something up. I hate when companies ask for that. For the ones that ask for a short example I literally just make up a story, but 1000 words?? Come on.

Orlando - lightly shopping NC
I've been awarded shops that I requested, though I've only ever requested a couple because the reports are terribly long - 3-4 hours for miniature golf and 6+ for movie set theme park. Summer could be tough for new shoppers to get these shops - everyone wants to go.
I've applied dozens of times and never received a shop. I don't understand because I get personal emails from their recruiter asking me to do a shop
@ropesman, next time you get a personal email from a scheduler, listing a shop you'd like to snag, reply back, "Gee whiz, so-and-so.....I'd love to help you out with this 'urgent' shop. Tell me how I can be considered for this opportunity. I've applied for a number of MSC's shops and have not been selected.".
Getting my first shops with this one was really about taking the end of the month shops that didn't get done. So, if you see stuff this week still out there for August, that would be ideal or try again at the end of another month. I still have to do briefing pre-shop calls more than I expected even with top scores. I've even had to pre-pay to guarantee I would complete a shop which is usually a no-no (and they removed that aspect in later months). The good news for new shoppers is they tend to not bonus enough until too late for most regular shoppers to visit the locations.

My real issue is that like many other MSCs there is a lot of work for very low pay. Also, many of their shops don't track to reimbursement separate from cost of items at event (lump sum pay). While I know you can track this for your own taxes, I wish the firm would do it to reduce even getting to the $600 true not reimbursement threshold which is more unlikely. That would be the biggest change I would suggest to them to have more shoppers be interested. Maybe the like to cycle through new shoppers and are not as interested in tenured shoppers.
