Intouch Insight and 1099's

I received two emails regarding 1099's from Intouch Insight with some decidedly conflicting information.

The first email was not received FROM them but purportedly on behalf of them. A third-party vendor sent me an email with a link to download my 1099. Clicking the link brought me to a page requesting the last four digits of my social security number. The email stated that if I did not retrieve my 1099 electronically, it would be sent to me in the mail. As the email did not come from Intouch Insight (though it is likely valid), and I received no "heads up" from them that I would be getting this email from a third party, I'd rather not take chances entering my personal info on a random website. I'll take the paper 1099, thankyouverymuch.

The next day, I received an email directly from Intouch Insight about helping me complete my taxes and with information about how to download my payment data from isecretshop (they operate on -at least- two platforms). Interestingly, highlighted in red at the bottom of the email was this statement:

"IMPORTANT: Since we do not collect social security numbers, we are unable to issue 1099."

Wait, what? How can you verify my identity by social if you don't collect my social?

Seems the company has not fully integrated and the right hand knows not what the left is doing.

Doing assignments since the days when reports were handwritten and faxed to the MSC.
