Coyle Group

Hello,
I have never mystery shopped before. I got an acceptance letter from Coyle. I have been reading some of the threads and have become concerned about potentially not getting paid for a hotel shop. It is to my understanding that I must pay out of my own pocket and then be reimbursed if my report on the shop is acceptable. Is this correct? How do I avoid not getting reimbursed? Are there any tips someone can give me?

TIA!

I wouldn't worry about it. If you've never shopped before, no one is going to risk giving you a hotel shop. You have to work your way up from smaller jobs. Go to the New Shoppers section.
Coyle is a good company. I did a hotel shop with them when I had very little experience. The evaluation form is straightforward w/less narrative than most hotel shops. It is true you have to charge the room, restaurant, room service, etc. The hotel chain credits your card within a week or so. It only took 3 days when I did the shop. Coyle pays you a fee and reimburses you the cash tips you gave. That is normally 3-4 weeks later. I found them very easy to work with and like I said.......I had only been a shopper for 4 months when they gave me the hotel shop. Back then, you had to handwrite the evaluation form and fax it in...thank goodness it is all online now.

Every month, Coyle has hotel shops in my area.......they do have a 90 day rotation here but there are 3 locations I can shop so it is nice.

Since you haven't shopped yet, I would advise you get some shops under your belt before responding to the hotel shop offers.........because IF they did give you one with no experience, you would find it overwhelming. You must ease into this because it can be very intimidating when you first begin even with an easy shop.

Good luck!!

They also insist that you do restaurant and smaller shops with them first so that you learn what they expect and they know what they can expect from you before you are assigned a bigger project.
Sneakers,bugspost,Flash,
Thank you all very, very much for the guidance! I have a lot to learn! You all have a great summer too. I am a grad student we finished our semester finals last week!
Bet you are glad that finals are over. By the way, the only shops I have done for Coyle are hotel shops. I have never done any other shops with them.
As I recall, I had done some casual restaurants and one fine dining with other companies when they gave me the hotel shop. I don't recall IF they even knew that. They did know I had only been shopping for 4 months so they gave me a real chance to prove myself. But it was a bit intimidating being so new and that is why I would advise getting more shops under your belt before attempting a hotel shop.
