Gas Station Safety Vest?

Thanks go out to Flash, MDavisNowell (tip sheet), Cettie, Irene_La, Emma, Mert, WJones777,Cvb42jeb & oneofthreepaths. The advise you took the time to give me has been so helpful. I still have not done more than one shop in a day, but feel after a little more experience, I'll be able to. I've done 4 shops and have 2 more scheduled. I'm trying to do all different types. I'm anxious to try a gas station as there are many in my area, BUT I read a safety vest is required! What is that about?

I don't know if they still provide you one with your first shop that requires it. If not, they are available from Walmart I understand. The one I was sent years ago looked like an orange garbage bag they had cut a neck and arm holes in and slit down the front. The execution was laughable but the issue is to try to make the shopper visible so they won't get run over. When you are strolling through among the gas pumps taking pictures you might not notice an oncoming vehicle? In any event, to make sure that everyone is in compliance with the requirement they added a photo requirement of you in this dainty garb to prove you were wearing it.
I did not get a vest this year when I got the guide. I had one from last year and one of our guest gave me one from his company. At my Wal Mart they are in hunting supples hanging up with various small hunting items. I ask a employee and she told they did not have any so you have to look.

A second client has added the vest and they do not send you that one either.

Just remember to take a lot of photos of everything.

Good Luck
llrose - They aren't sending out the orange vests any more, and just as well. You wouldn't be able to use the one they used to send any time at all. I understand Walmart has the orange ones that a lot of the shoppers are using.

You can get contractor grade safety vests on Ebay (like the road hands wear). They hold up great and wash like a dream. You might want to put one of these on a wish list if you decide to specialize in the stations.

I've never seen flo orange safety vests at Goodwill, but I've bought some great flo orange stuff there. I found a super heavy duty flo orange safety coat and a lighter weight orange safety coat for milder weather, both good as new, and love'em. Also, I found a flo orange cap and a flo orange insulated vest. In icy weather I wrap up like a pumpkin and go get it.

Best of luck to you with the stations and all your other shops. Keep in touch / Mary
