Newbie Question about certifications

I live in a somewhat rural area so shops aren't plenty here. I noticed on several ms pages there are zero shops and lots of certifications I haven't completed. Does completing the certifications affect my ability to see jobs in my area or is it ok to wait to complete them until there's actually a job that requires it?

Liz, I can't say for sure because that may vary somewhat from company to company but in my case I sometimes see shops that require certification before I can actually get an assignment. My best guess is that you see whatever shops they are willing to assign you at this time whether you are certified or not. What I mean by that is that as you are with a company longer and prove yourself on simpler shops it's possible they will offer you more detailed and difficult work you may not be able to see when you first sign up with them. Hope this helps.

I was just wondering about this too. I get the message that there are not any shops for me in the area. That makes me think I am not qualified for shops they have.
Liz and breest,
How many MSCs are you signed up with?

I typically take a shop thats offered in my area just to get my foot in the door with each company. I guess most companies filled all their quotas for this month already because there is zilch in my area! Even with Market Force and they always seem to have a couple of danglers.
In November and December the schedulers are under intense pressure to wrap up all of the month's shops very early because of the holidays and the end-of-quarter and end-of-year pressure from clients. Naturally, this will often result in few jobs left on the boards relatively early in the month.

Most companies seem to let me see the shop first, then certify for it before applying, but I got an email from GFK saying I wouldn't be able to see the new cell phone audits coming up if I didn't pass the beginner audit certification.

I must be signed up for at least 50-60 companies by now. I have lost count, I went down the list on this website but I have not signed up for all of them. Plus, if I see a company on a job board I will sign up. I can travel 60 miles either way I go and there are shops. I have done most of the banks I can in the town I live, now I am working on car dealerships.
