Shopreporter Scam victim

A mystery shopper assigment came through a message on linkedin from a former VP of HR I knew from a previous job. I do have 100% on this person.

Yesterday O found out, this VP HR linkedin account was hacked, and some fake identity was the one who contacted me.

The assigment was to evaluate service level and customer purchasing experience at an Apple Store.

They sent a check to cover the expenses on buying 3 iPhones. The checks I deposit in my bank were accepted, although 4 days later my bank called to indicate the checks were put on hold, and that clearly this people from Shopreporter were committing fraud.

I went to the police and requested an official report.

Theres probably nothing else I can do.

It is just the same old scam with a different 'company' name and 'shop requirements'. I guess you have omitted the part where you wire transfer the balance of check on to 'another shopper' as an 'evaluation' or send the phones along to someone.

The bottom line that should shield you from any con game or scam is why would this person send you a substantial check having no background experience of working with you? Certainly flattering that they would trust you to do 'what you were supposed to do', but what real business would put themselves on a limb like that?
Victim, nothing about that sounded shady to you?

I actually received a check and immediately took the matter to my Bank manager and I also called Postmaster fraud.. I believe receiving a bogus check is mail fraud.
You should have verified the checks before depositing. I thought was fishy and took the check to my bank manager who immediately verify it was a bogus check. Never hit my account
