is it legal to record shops?

Hi Shoppers, I'm new to mystery shopping myself. I just wondered if there are any legal ramifications of recording your conversations without the other person being aware of it or consenting to it? I believe there could be, but I'm not sure. If anyone knows please chime in.

Some states are '2 party' states where both folks in the conversation must be aware it is recorded. Some states are '1 party' states where only you need to consent. The question comes up fairly frequently and if you do a search on '2 party' you will likely find the website links to which states are which.
